Congratulations on the baby!

I think others have listed good suggestions. As far as self-care, maybe it would be fun to research new ways to style your hair. Maybe buy a new hair product that's a little different from what you normally would buy, or maybe buy a hair accessory or two? I'm not sure how long your hair is, but even if it's short, there are quite a few decorative bobby pins out there that can spice up a hairdo.

My suggestion is self care and accessories. Even footwear is questionable. Feet can change size. I have heard women talk about their feet going up and down sizes with pregnancy. (I think mine are shrinking in menopause)

I like all the above suggestions.
After about three months from the birth of my girl I went to a mini shopping spree. I didn't go crazy, but I bought 3-4 items of medium quality that could tie together the rest of the stuff I could still wear. These few items cheered me up (husband said I had to go shopping more often if that was the effect) and made things easier when I went back to work a couple of months later. Eventually my bust went back to normale size, so I had to put them away, but for those first months they were very helpful.

You sound in a great place with a wee one!! It is 12 years ago since I had a little baby (my youngest turns 12 today) but I remember wearing a lot of denim skirts and loose tees!!

I wore my hair up, tried to wear pattern (to not show marks or spills), and a lot of flat trainers and shoes.

Dresses are good in one way but can be a challenge if nursing I found.

I agree -funky flat footwear, scarves, lipstick and anything that encourages walking with the baby buggy are all good ideas.

Many thanks, Emily - curating my closet took the better part of a decade, and it's been a gratifying process that I'm sure will continue. It's amazing how having a fairly narrow set of silhouettes, colors, and options has been liberating since they're items that I love and that suit my style.

Great suggestions, Angie and Joy. Looking forward to exploring accessories and footwear as updates and thinking through how to make the most of what I have.

Nice reflections.

Trendy footwear and amping up the accessories is a great way to go.

You are wonderfully disciplined. In this period, you may want to explore ways to use some of your dresses into another season or in a different way. Congratulations on your little daughter.

Penny, I remember seeing your closet photographs on another thread. The cohesive color palette, the similar dress silhouettes--your discipline and wardrobe crafting are an inspiration. And it looks like you survived the maternity period without resorting to dependence on worn-out sweat pants and Tee's. (I was a fashion "don't" poster during pregnancy.) Well done!

Great suggestions, Suz and Barbara! I love the idea of self-care and accessories, and outfitting my DD (who requires multiple onesies a day!) will certainly keep me busy.

And the exercise of writing this post made me realize that two of my formal / occasion dresses simply aren't my first choice and aren't worn often enough, regardless of whether they fit later, so I've moved those to take for consignment / donation.

Looking forward to shifting my focus (and enjoying YLF for future inspiration) until I can further assess!

Best of luck to everyone at YLF in the new year - I've very much enjoyed reading everyone's reflections, resolutions, and goals.

In 2016, I spent almost exactly the same amount as in 2015, although instead of primarily upgrading and replacing shoes and handbags, I purchased a capsule of maternity and nursing dresses, replaced most of my loungewear, and added a handful of accessories. My overall spending was lower than I expected in both years, probably because tracking made me more mindful of my purchases.

Now, although I would love to be shopping, I'm in somewhat of a holding pattern: seven weeks after my daughter's birth, it's too early to assess my wardrobe of dresses, although a preliminary review suggests that some of my dresses should be fine, while others will be too tight in the bust (because I'm nursing, though, that could be a temporary issue). It's hard to be patient, but I know I shouldn't be too hasty in donating or replacing items at this stage.

Overall, I think my numbers are on track for the core of my wardrobe: 15 work dresses, 8 summer weekend dresses, 6 winter weekend dresses, 5 occasion dresses, and 5 formal dresses. My wardrobe of 8 maternity dresses, however, suggests that I could probably get by with fewer items in each category if they have classic silhouettes in my favorite solid colors (navy, black, and jewel tones), and I could probably shed a few of the occasion / formal dresses. Everything is fairly cohesive and in line with my style (sophisticated elegance, with hints of vintage glam), and I have a good selection of accessories, shoes, cardigans, blazers, coats, etc.

Thoughts welcome on how to channel my style-related energy while I'm in this holding pattern! Right now, I'm trying to enjoy my accessories and keep an eye out for potentially promising pieces if / when they are needed. And best of luck to all as we embark on a new year of our style journeys!
