Chances are I will only keep 2, but obviously I'm not the person to try to persuade you against them.&nbsp;</p> <p>To me, they are a layering basic. I don't just layer with jackets/ coats/ cardigans. I also layer with scarves for interest. They are the winter equivalent of a dressy tee. This type of top is a wardrobe essential for me (when it works) and I do not for a second deny myself the opportunity to snap up a good version. Years go by when these are hard to come by, the merino is terrible quality/itchy, the colours don't work for me, etc. When good ones show up, I pounce!&nbsp;</p> <p>Also, 34 purchases, the vast majority of which are essentials and workhorses, does not sound over the top to me. I regularly purchase about 25-35 items per year, and regularly retire approximately the same number. This represents about 1/3 of my wardrobe. Most items last from 3-5 years with some lasting for 10 or more and a few lasting only a season (usually due to fit or quality.) So far this year, not counting gear purchases, I've bought 26 items. The reason for this was my ( up until then) overflowing wardrobe. The issue for me was keeping stuff too long, often easily 10 years. I also don’t want to just ditch it because it’s old, you know? Not if I still like and wear it, but then there is also the sentimental issue.<br /> I have now decided I would like a functional wardrobe of around 150 items, and because I will keep many about 5 years ( longer than Angie’s approx 3 years) then 30 a year is about right to meet this plan and still enjoy some new stuff. One fifth of the wardrobe may turn over each year therefore. I really like my cotton Everlane sweaters but these look good and worth a try. I've also at 34/36 wardrobe additions for the year but I've gone a bit over my yearly budget so I'm stopping. I'm impressed that you spent time assessing your purchases. I probably should do something similar. I have logged them all into a Collection on Finds and it looks mostly good. I did get different colors of layering tops to kind of stretch my palette a bit and haven't yet worked them into rotation but I'm still interested in doing that.
