I'm kind of 'meh' about most of this. Maybe because most of this doesn't seem like 'trends', but the same stuff that's been around for awhile now.

I don't get the skirted leggings, maybe because I seem to recall a skirt-over-pants-one-piece thing happening in the late 90's or early 2000's (I forget exactly when) that never quite seemed to take off. But more likely, it's because I think, 'why not just wear a skirt over your leggings?' :D Obviously I'm missing something about this, because Janice on the Vivienne Files loves hers, and I'm seeing rave reviews about the EF ones here.

I would love to see those 60's-style open-overskirts-over-cigarette-capris come back in. The kind you wear with pointy-toe pumps and a fancy cigarette holder and a martini glass. :D

Can somebody explain the patches? Are we talking about elbow patches? Knee patches?

(ETA I just looked at the Refinery 29 link, and I am still unclear about the patches. I was picturing something kind of cool and equestrian, like Angie's Smythe jacket, but what they are describing sounds like the stuff my mom ironed on in the 70's to patch holes in the knees of my polyester pants.)

Thanks for sharing. I like the Mom and boyfriend jean thing, although I might still be the only one on team Mom. I like brown leather too although I am thinking of Angie's comment that it's harder to pull off cheap leather goods in brown. I purchased a pair of cognac-ish booties and they are just not thrilling me.

Overskirt is probably not something for me, I'm not saying they're for the young only but I feel too old for them. Ironically, I do not feel too old for short shorts in the privacy of my own home. I know, I make no sense at all.

The author of this list has an eye towards Northeast Asia (Uniqlo, Sacai, Korean models) which is interesting.

I loved shopping at Uniqlo when I lived in Japan in 2004-2005. I was pleased to see them opening stores in the US and adding online shopping this year.

While I rocked Doc Martens in middle school in the early 90s and love them on others, they no longer go with my style. I'll pass.

I'll also pass on brown. I just never have been drawn to that color.

Well-- I'm trendy. I bought several of my co-workers fancy "morale patches" (the kind marketed to police and military) that fit an inside joke. So far the youngest 2 of the 4 have put them on their commuter bags.

Most of these trends are already trending.

Fluid and Oversized fits - I have been SHOUTING this from the roof tops for 2.5 years. BF jeans have been mainstream for a while.

Docs, Uniqlo and Apple products are always in style.

Brown, we saw become fashionable this season, and I've been blogging about it for 6 months.

Overskirts have started coming through this season, and Sacai is fab.

Just revisited the thread to see other responses, and I'm a little glad to see I have plenty of company in being unimpressed. More to the point of my habit lately of being a fashion curmedgeon:

Mom / boyfriend jeans, well something baggy-ish: I'm already not in love with BF jeans for me, and mom jeans are never happening on my body again. Nope nope nope.

Apple watch: Hmm, maybe, someday. For now, I'll take a new iPhone, but not the big one.

Doc Martens: I never thought they went out of style, but I doubt I'll invest more in them just for the sake of trendiness. My shoe taste is getting a little more refined lately, and I have enough clunky shoes.

Padlock necklaces: Sounds like something that will look completely dated on January 1, 2016.

Brown as neutral: OK, that I can get behind, but I'm more into black and grey. Still, it is nice to have some variety.

Overskirt (I believe that the skirted leggings may fall into this): Not for me. a) I don't wear leggings b) I'm not wearing the few skirts I have left, and c) above-the-knee skirt lengths look bad on me, so just no.

Uniqlo (I thought they had their moment about 2 years ago...): OK, fine for basics, but their offerings have never excited me.

Japanese brand Sacai: Some of the designs look interesting, but this is high-end stuff, and I don't see what little I've seen of this translating to everyday life for most women.

Korean models as social media stars: I just can't relate. But I don't care much about social media stars anyway.

fancy patches: ??? I saw a photo of this last night, and it looked like someone slapped my old Girl Scout badges all over a shirt. This looks really juvenile to my eye, and contrived. I guess someone thought it would look "fun and quirky" but it's not for me.

*goes to hug closet*

I think I'm with Rachylou ... most of these trends seem like they are not exactly early adopter stuff. Some of it I think is just silly (the patches) and others are not really super trendy to begin with (the changing jeans shape and the browns are more of a groundswell). I think instead of saying Doc Martens they should have gone with lace up boots, since Docs are ubiquitous and lace up boots are having a bit of a moment here and there. I'm all about Apple products but I don't think I want to have an Apple watch.

Ha, I called it on the brown (in Dimity's neutrals topic earlier this morning)!

I have been seeing Docs a lot more recently; there were always people for whom they were their style, but I'm seeing them on people who are going for a trendier vibe, not a punky/goth one. It's interesting that they called out the oxfords in particular, not the boots; kind of an extension of the slimmer, less chunky oxfords that were everywhere in 2014.

"Find a pair that's slim through the waist, hips, and butt, but slightly loose around your knees and calves." Uh, ok. Isn't that called "a normal fit"? Is it that we've got an entire generation of adults now that have worn nothing but skinnies with lycra, ever?

The overskirts thing sounds a little out there to me, not something that most of us will be able to translate into real life. But the skirted leggings and asymmetric, apron-y looking skirts, definitely seem to be rising in popularity.

Interesting.
Re the Doc Martens....have those ever really gone away? I think they have now reached "classic" status.
Re padlock necklaces...somehow in my mind's eye I see a giant padlock on a rope, hanging around someone's neck. Clearly not what is intended but just because of that image, I now will not be able to get behind this one.
Brown as a neutral...what? Is this news, Refinery 29?
Re Uniqlo....ah, love Uniqlo. They have filled the space in my wardrobe that the Gap used to fill about 10 years ago.

Hmm, I'm pretty meh on all of this. Perhaps I'll be happily untrendy in 2015.
