This is an authentic 1940s pattern, resized by vintage knitting dame Susan Crawrod. It is a fairly fitted knit. With weight fluctuations, and a lengthy health season, I haven't felt confident to invest the time fitted knits take--a decision a you all agreed was wise. I do already own the yarn for this, a gorgeous neutral crimson red. It's a bit more wooly and rustic than the original yarn, but I think it should work out well. (I like the pattern, but not sure it's me?? I do have a really fabulous 1970s style sweater that would be excellent in this color combination.) I have always loved orangey reds paired with cooler burgundies or wines. As a teen, my own mother tried to tell me that these colors clash. It's a really gorgeous cable and lace coatigan. The yarn was unfortunately discontinued. I've found a good replacement, though it's not as saturated as the original and is a couple ticks deeper.  <a rel="nofollow" href="http://https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/dreams-blanket-shawl">Dreams Blanket Shawl by Kalurah Hudson</a>, photos 11-14 While the designer photos are not in red, I am planning to knit this in red! (It goes with my whole 1970s Glam and Modern Outlander outfit inspo.) I'm considering using a sour cherry red yarn from my stash. I'm about 15 yards shy of the called-for yardage. Probably have enough to finish the shawl but iffy on the fringe. However, designers usually build in a 10-15% yardage buffer. Worst case scenario, I run out and have to leave off the fringe.  Aside from the knits, I also have a few red lipsticks I really, really adore. Mac Dubonnet is fabulous, as is Almay Lip Vibes in Love Thyself. I want this to be the winter I wear more red lipstick. It's very easy for me to fall into smoky eyes and nude lips, despite loving red lipstick. Red lipstick is so "here I am". It still feels challenging to be that visible.
