Lovely skirt Ana, you may have convinced me to buy something red for myself;-)

Funny, all the combinations I came up with are either with blue or yellow too. How about one of these:

I found three tops on esprit.com
- under 'woven shirts': beat blue sailor striped shirt (with frill and tie)
- under 'woven shirts': eclipse blue light striped shirt
- under 'tops and tees': lost blue crincle tee (sleeveless)

On the J. Crew site I like the following ones to go with your skirt:
- sleeveless top with removable sash belt either in light citron or classic navy: http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/p.....=cat302188
- voile eyelet blouse in navy: http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/p.....=cat302188
- if you don't mind halter tops, this one in classic navy or sour lemon: http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/p.....=cat302188
- very sweet polka-dot shirt in sour lemon: http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/p.....=cat302189
- kimono-dot twisted-placket shirt in daffodil (they even paired it with red shorts): http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/p.....=cat302189
- posy-print twisted-placket shirt if you'd like long sleeves: http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/p.....=cat302189
- featherweight cotton tie top in classic navy, something a bit more blousy: http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/p.....=cat302192
- Parisian polo in citrus lime, I like that it has two colours, could be quite preppy and cute worn with ballet flats: http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/p.....=cat302194

This is longer than I planned, sorry, I got a bit carried away...

LOVE that skirt. I want one! Red is a basic. It’ll work with just about anything if you’re confident enough to wear it. It’s very eye-catching. Thanks for mis-matching everyone. I enjoyed that. The suggestions are wonderful!! Go for it Ana.

That's a VERY fab skirt! Wow. Very cool. And it looks like you can wear tons with it. Also like the idea of a cropped denim jacket someone made. And have you thought of ink blue with it?

Wow, thanks for all the ideas! I was worried I would hardly ever wear it despite really liking it, and now l have all sorts of options.

I wasn't *sure* about wearing the red skirt with yellow because I was worried people would think "Ronald McDonald!" but now you all have given me the confidence to wear it. I guess it just has to be the right tint and amount of yellow to work. I have a chunky yellow necklace that I was thinking of pairing with the original outfit I posted. I also like the ballet flat idea, I think a slightly dressier pair (like the Anne Klein Impress flats Angie blogged about) would be great!

Thanks for putting that outfit together Julia, I love it!

Looks very good Ana! Black, white and red always look good together.

Another idea is a pretty white blouse with a pair of flat shoes and chunky bangles. I created one for you:

http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=1373925

I like her idea of wearing yellow with it! Maybe a yellow belt instead of black? I also think keeping it on the shorter side (still w/in your perfect skirt length) will keep it more casual.

You remember that V neck sleeveless top you got at bluefly? I think a top like that in cream or white would look pretty cool with a red pencil skirt. A little volume on top would work because the skirt is pencil.

I think wearing ballet flats opposed to heels would dress it down too.

Ana, I love outfit! very cute!

Maybe with a white cami & black cardi ( or opposite) or b&w print top? And metallic wedges or espadrilles? Or for a more nautical look, a navy&white or yellow&white
striped tee. Or fitted dark denim jacket with a white knit top?

Edit: I saw this top and totally thought of your skirt:

Hi all! I just bought a cotton sateen red Calvin Klein pencil skirt. It is very plain, side zip, 2 slits on the sides and comes to right above my knees. I really like it, and I want to figure out a way to wear it smart casual rather than smart smart, because it could easily be very dressy. I was thinking a crisp white shirt, untucked, with a thicker black patent belt and either white, black, or nude pumps. I made an outfit on polyvore:

http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=1373516

It is not a high waist skirt like the one on the picture, it's just that was the only red pencil skirt I could find. I am thinking of buying that exact shirt, though, which is the kensington shirt from J. Crew:

http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/p.....=cat302190

What do you all think? Any other ways I could wear a red pencil skirt in a more casual way?

Thank you!
