I was in a wedding a few weeks ago and we wore raspberry dresses, so I made sure to remove the orange polish I was wearing and replace it with a light pink that had a neutral look. I have specifically matched cherry red polish to my cherry red peep-toes in the past, so I don't think red with red is inherently bad. I can see how some shades might look off, but for an everyday look I wouldn't bother. Right now I am wearing a kelly green skirt with mint green toes. I change my nail color pretty often over the course of the summer. Some combinations, as QM pointed out, are better than others but I really don't worry about it. Overall, I'd wear a nude polish with a nude shoe without blinking an eye, so I don't find red with red objectionable at all.
