I really like this dress. It doesn’t look near as dressy as the other one. I always wear a slip under a dress, even a casual one. Old school.

If the styles , fabric and color suit you, I see no problem having similar items. They can be styled differently and make you feel differently. I’m on team- go for what you like

3style, no problemo.

Suz, you got it. The layered bodice is like a boxy top without wardrobe malfunction and adds some width for balance.

The one drawback is the jersey fabric skirt which requires, erm, “ smooth “ underlayer. Not shapewear per se , but if not pantyhose, then a smoother- short or a slip. I will wear hose for indoor wear in air conditioning, but if I wanted to do bare legs- sneakers etc, will need to try some options.

It’s always something!

This looks like a terrific day dress. I love the colour! Also, from the photo it looks as if it could be a near-perfect style for you. A bit of ease around the hip, a neat, tailored fit at the shoulder, and the layering provides the illusion of a higher waist, without creating any of the fit issues that a set in waist in that position might do. In short, it looks like a total winner. Also a great price!

In my defense, I just reread both dress posts and you didn’t reiterate that point. I have a good memory, but I didn’t connect it to your comment on the sleeveless Y or N post. I’m not a mind reader yet

3style, thanks, that’s the point- I DON’T wear sleeveless dresses so sleeved dresses are a HEWI for me. But I was thinking this dress has a similar casual vibe to a summer vacay dress.

Devil’s advocate reporting for duty Do you wear sleeveless dresses? The jjill seamed sleeveless knit dress in Sangria might more useful, if so.

https://www.jjill.com/product/.....knit-dress

I had a similar dress to that one for many years. It was outstanding for travel because it could be quite dressed up, yet fit well over a swimming suit as a quick cover up or even doubled as a nightie in a pinch.

Your reasoning is correct: better two dresses in a bold color that you love and suits you, than trying every which way to work a different color or print. I also don’t think you’d split wears as they are sufficiently different.

I think they are both lovely but quite different. I also find dresses really hard to find. I wouldn’t hesitate just because they are a similar colour. Next year retail could dominated by a colour that you don’t care for - stock up on your happy colour while you can.

I can’t say I’m experiencing the dress thunderstorm — dresses continue to be hard and elusive for me— but I came across this JJill dress and brought it home to try styling. This would be in addition to the EF silk dress I already have.
In the store I wondered if it would be wrong to have 2 dresses in such similar colors , but the reds, which in fact are not the same shade, but are both in the cool end of red zone, are very Happy colors for me. Also thought the somewhat scoop neck would be a deal- breaker for fit, but it’s not too low to wear and doesn’t gape and so I can fill in with a casual necklace which then allows it to work for me. It hits me mid- knee, not above knee, which is good. The style and vibes are very different, so there is less potential for splitting wears and more potential for dress- wearing. This is very casual, a jersey knit, with pockets (!) , a weekend fun day dress, packable- not outstanding quality but approachable.
I want to try it with some different types of footwear but I think it’s a keeper.
I decided I’d rather be seen in similar, flattering color than wear prints or colors that aren’t that good on me. I think it’s worth seeing if that’s how things work out.
