I like the first one about a billion percent more. I agree that the new one looks like loungewear/PJs because of the big stripe.

Of the two dresses, I vote for sticking with the first dress. It looked more fluid, drapey, and modern to me. You look fantastic in it, so if you can wear with confidence, keep that one. If you think the unlined back will niggle at you, I would keep looking.

Looking back at the first one -- it is so darn beautiful on you! The 2nd one is nice as well, but it has a totally different vibe -- far more casual. Is there potentially a place in your closet for both, one for going out and one for pretty stay-at-home wear? I do, however, understand budget constraints. (I have them as well.) But it is sometimes very tough to find pieces that can, in real life, crossover that casual/dressy threshold. I sometimes have to concede that my loungewear/day clothes really should be an entirely separate capsule.

Good point, Janet. I have this tug of war between easy to wear (too loungey) and nicer and more presentable but more 'fussy' (right undergarments, etc). Sigh.

PS I really can't tell much about the latest dress without seeing it on. I'll be really honest here -- I'm almost to the point of poison eye when it comes to spaghetti straps, so my eye kinda gets stuck on that detail and it *always* reads ultra casual or young. But that is my personal bias, so take that for what it's worth.

Here's my take on this kind of summer day workhorse dress: I need it to be comfortable -- physically and mentally -- even if I'm not feeling my most toned and fab. If you have any worries about how you will feel in the dress if you vary by a couple of pounds or whatever, I would reevaluate. Hot weather dressing is hard enough without being more self-conscious than we need to be!

That was my sneaking suspicion, Ceit. Thanks. (I may have been wearing sale goggles when looking at dress #2 )

I think this one looks more like lingerie/loungewear than a dress. I like the one that you posted before much better. It looks like a dress, which can be dressed up or made more casual.

I'm debating returning the jersey red drape dress http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....king-about and trying this modal one instead. Am I chasing my tail here? Downgrading?
I worry that the unlined back of the first one will just cause me to be self conscious and not the easy free feeling I want from a day dress. Though I am working on push ups and should feel a bit firmer in a couple weeks. ;)
On the other hand, I wonder if the empire style of the second one makes it just too casual, a house only lounge dress, despite the purple satin edge.
The first dress is a step dressier, so it could go more places than just with flip flops.
Should I try a trade out (yay) or just stick with my first choice (nay)? thx!
