Gorgeous rug and quilts! We need armies of people repurposing textiles like you and your sister. There are so many heaps of rags all over the world. I sometimes unravel old sweaters and reuse the yarn, but woven textiles are more abundant. If your sister taught a class on rag rug making, I'd sign up. This is inspiring. I might look into ways to crochet with rags.

What a great rug and useful way to use old tees. My ancestors in a log cabin had a huge loom to weave rag rugs. They lasted for generations. The log cabin and loom still exist in a park, along with their water-driven grist mill.
Your sister could make the tee-shirt rugs for baby play and nap mats, for campers and homeless to put a layer between them and the ground. Plastic bags could also be used.

Wow, thanks for sharing your quilts! The hexie quilt is especially lovely in the sun. Hand quilting is a thing I admire but do not do. Kudos to you for that.

Very cool, both your sister's artwork and your own! I do a lot of fiber crafts and love the creative outlet it provides. I primarily knit these days but you make me want to get out my quilting supplies again!

Wow! What a beautiful work. I used to work for a textile company and I went to about 15 shows a year, mostly quilting shows. I always admired the beautiful creations, but never tried it myself. Maybe one day I will ☺️

I've done a bit of repurposing too! The first quilt (#1-2) was made using mostly fabric from discontinued upholstery sample books. The second (#3) from actual sewing remnants. I almost always piece my quilt backs from fabric picked up at yard sales or given to me. Sometimes it is hard to quilt through (I hand quilt) - but it never dissuads me!

I love fabrics (addiction) and it breaks my heart when someone puts it in the trash instead of donating or repurposing. It makes me so happy to see this project. It's beautiful.

Lisap, Glory - little sis works outside the home, and has school aged children - but weaves the rugs in her (limited) spare time as a creative outlet. She gives them to family and friends. If someone admires one that she is working on - she gives it away to them and refuses to accept money. My sister has incredible creative energy and knits and is an accomplished amateur photographer. A photo of hers was selected for a building sized banner and bookmarks for a local library campaign.

I volunteer at a thrift store and we sell of lots of stuff that is going to be repurposed. Sometimes it makes me sad, such as when they’re planning to felt a beautiful Scandinavian sweater, but most of the time I think it’s great.

It really makes my day to see this, because I volunteer at a creative reuse center, and we have TONS of fabric scraps of every conceivable kind. We do sell a lot of it, to quilters and other crafters, and I hope the projects that it's bought for end up as well as your sister's!

I thought I would post this for all the folks who fret about purging unloved clothing items. My sister makes wonderful organic rugs that are pieces of art! She uses all kinds of old clothing items donated to her or picked up at thrift stores.

This is one she just made for me. It is so cushy and warm underfoot after a bath, and I can toss it in the washing machine when it needs cleaning.
