Thanks FoxyG, I'll add that to the list. Since it is Elta it's likely pricey, but it's also likely good.

Janet, I know, it's so annoying! I have allergic contact dermatitis and the testing phase for a list of new products can take months. Last Winter/Spring I had about 7 longtime staples discontinued within a few months and I have been very slowly having to find replacements for multiple hair products, face products including sunscreen, and anti-persipirant/deodorant. It's been tiring to say the least. Products d/c fast these days because NEW!!! sells better but it is such a pain.

I'll update this by saying the Nivea recommended above is the one I'm currently using, but I don't love it. The search is not over, just stalled out. I find the Nivea to be slightly drying and to have that "unscented" unpleasantness Janet is talking about. It's usable and I haven't moved on from it because I'm not outside for very long and usually with a scarf over my mouth now, but come Spring I will probably start trying some others.

My favorite basic Neutrogena lip balm was discontinued a few months ago (WHYYYYYY???) so I’m going to be digging into this quest too. I have some OKeefes without SPF that I use at home and in the evenings when I won’t be out, so I may try their SPF formula.

Burt’s Bees dries my lips out. And I hate the smell/taste of a lot of the so-called unscented ones. My old favorite from years ago had a faint vanilla scent to it, which was very pleasant. I miss that one.

I now understand why my mom bought extra of her favorite everything and hoarded it. I hate it when favorites are discontinued. Still mad about Kiehl’s silk groom hair Creme.

I wear Burt's Bees tinted lip moisturizer on my lips. Everything makes my lips peel but it is better than most. Good luck. I will watch this thread to see if there is anything I should try . It does not have to have sun screen but it is helpful.

Late to the party, but I have yet to find a mineral SPF for lips that works and is non-irritating. I prefer mineral based products for face and body, but for lips the two that work for me pretty reliably are:

https://www.cvs.com/shop/aquap.....k-pack-of-

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Sup.....-Quantum-R

I have sensitive skin and am outdoors a lot, dealing with sun/windburn regularly. These two both help. I avoid anything with added fragrance, and also avoid lanolin. Used to use regular Aquaphor, but a derm advised me against it due to the lanolin content; plain old Vaseline is better for extremely sensitive skin. And the Aquaphor lip product doesn't contain lanolin. Lately I've been leaning toward applying my facial SPF all over my face, including lips, and then putting a layer of vaseline on top for the occlusive effect. Not for around town, though -- only in ski/hike scenarios! :)

Thanks everyone, those are a lot of suggestions to try. I will definitely start going through them. The one I'm using besides the Coola is SPF 15 and since I've been trying and failing to find something with higher SPF, maybe the extra SPF is what makes it harder to make a good one?

So...maybe SPF 15 is good enough for incidental daily exposure...driving, taking the dog out, getting the mail? That's usually all I get unless I go on a long outdoor walk. My drive to find higher might just be my imagination thinking of how bad skin cancer on the lips would be!

MsMaven, my dentist doesn't do that but a friend's does. She sometimes gives some to me and that is my current favorite, but again, SPF 15.

Roberta and Angie...Nivea might be the first up. I have a Nivea tinted balm I love, that has no SPF, but since I at least know I like it that is probably the best place to start.

My other Fab Friends, I feel a huge lip balm test coming on! Fun, thanks!

Have you checked with your dentist? My dentist provides a wonderful balm with sunscreen to all her patients for free. I wish I could recommend a brand, but I just stick with Dr. Lee's balm. Must be something available to dentists, other medical people.

No help from me I'm afraid .. I've never found an SPF lipbalm I can use that doesn't make my lips peel and burn. I wear a hat and hope for the best ... if I'm really in hot hot sun swimming or something I sometimes put a mineral one on which looks ridiculous but does the job. so I feel your pain in trying to find one!

Maybe this should be off topic? Not sure...makeup and skincare is sometimes posted here.

I've been looking for a good sunscreen lip balm for a few years. SPF 30 would be enough...I'm looking for daily wear, not all day at the beach. Sephora brand used to have a great one, which they discontinued of course.

I've since tried ones from Sun Bum, Coola, Fresh and Supergoop and found them all to be slightly gritty and seriously drying. The one from Supergoop added burning and a bad taste to the mix. Currently I'm putting up with the Coola one but don't want to repurchase it due to the drying effect.

Do you have one you like a lot?
