Today I used the video recorder for google drive that nemosmom mentioned. It did let me start recording a new video seconds after ending the old one. Interestingly, it still records them on the phone as well, and then uploads—they seem to have just moved the uploading to the background to let you continue recording.

I’m going to try zoom next, will let you all know how it goes.

Also, the team does apparently have an account where I can upload, although they couldn’t remember what it was today.

400 mb is a lot. It’s always going to take time. Are you using Dropbox?

I guess with social distancing you don’t see the coach? Because you could give them to him on a thumb drive.

There's a Gsuite/3rd party app that allows you to record to Google Drive. I have not used it.

Rachylou, I need to get them to the coach somehow. Last time I stitched the clips together into 4 videos. They were around 400 MB each—much too big to email. I don’t know how to get them to him other then posting online. I put the raw clips in one free cloud space and the videos of the quarters in another, need to ask which he prefers. When the players saw me recording, some of them wanted to see the videos too. Putting them in the cloud gives everybody access, & I just have to do it once for the whole team.

As for how I can do it when spectators aren’t permitted—this is how I get in! I’m not a spectator, I’m part of the team’s coaching staff. I get paid in being able to watch my kid play & cheer him on. (Watching the videos is how the coach critiques their play and sees what they need to work on for the next game. Some pro teams watch video together; my son’s old coach says high school teams do that too.

Cindysmith, I didn’t know there was such a thing as a paid zoom account—thanks for that!

Oh and I see you say you had 80 clips and the upload was a pain... you know, I’m not sure if you can get around that pain. Bandwidth and memory. But I’ll ask... but one more question... why are you saving to the cloud?

Whoops. Forgot about you’d mentioned that when asking my brother. He said a bunch of other things... on that note... is there a reason you don’t want to save to your phone? He said that an iPad may be better for video making and also because of memory limits, phones aren’t the best for something like a long game. How are you making the movies if no spectators? My bro also mentioned zoom.

Rachylou, thanks. Facebook is the one there I know about. It works as I described above. You can livestream with it, but then to have the video available later, you have to wait for it upload to the cloud. I'm looking for an or site that saves directly to the cloud (because of the problem I mentioned of not having time to wait for the upload before I need to start recording again). Can you ask your brother if he knows any that do that?

I am looking for a way that I can record videos directly to the cloud without needing to save them to my phone before uploading them.

I’m recording my son’s basketball games for several reasons: his new head coach is handicapped and doesn’t travel to away games. My son may one day need highlights reels of his play. For my own selfish purposes, making the movies gets me into games when covid rules say no spectators.

My first time out, last weekend, I thought I could use Facebook or WhatsApp. Both apps let you livestream and record. I found out when I tried to use them though that it is not seamless; after a clip is recorded/live-streamed, it has to be uploaded before another clip can be made. There was no time for this during the game. The ball would bounce out of bounds, I’d stop recording & hit “upload”, the ball would be passed to the refs who set up the inbounder and...I couldn’t record the throw-in, because the darn phone was still busy. I wound up saving all the clips to the phone, then uploading all 80+ of them later, which was no fun.

There are so many knowledgeable people on this site who can do so many things. I’m hoping one of you can solve this dilemma.
