Not just because I don't look at my face closely ( I am always in a rush it seems and it seems somewhat narcissistic ) but because I realized that I don't really look at others' faces closely . I used to stare at my children when they were young...I have started doing that again. &nbsp;Which freaks them out. And my elderly parents. There is so much in their faces. Ozeki is actually a friend of some good friends of ours, and I've met her a few times (but long, long ago when she lived in NYC--now she's out in British Columbia somewhere). She was a cool, unassuming person, though. Last time we met, her breakthrough novel, My Year of Meats, was about to enter publication. It ended up being a big hit. This slim book is a stirring meditation on beauty, family, ritual, aging, and -- ultimately -- connection. I highly recommend it if these are the kinds of things you think about. As a 50+ woman, I think about these things more and more. Hope you try it. </p>
