Thanks Angie I'm still in a state of shock that he was willing to go in and try stuff on. Guess what else? I went just a little nuts on the shopping last weekend and bought my FIL a bunch of shirts and sweaters. At the same time, my husband bought him a laptop (on super-sale), a monitor and a wireless keyboard/mouse set-up. So, today, when I was gathering up the two coats I wanted to return, I asked my husband, "Do you want me to return these sweaters and shirts I bought for your Dad last weekend?" I figured that with the computer stuff, we'd return the clothes.

He took a look - and said, "No...keep them, he will love it." So the YLF effect means that my elderly FIL gets a brand new computer set up AND some nice new clothes. No, this not the normal routine - just FIL really needs a new computer and we got one for a really good price on Black Friday. It's usually a gourmet gift basket or something along those lines.

eta: Isis - this is a big, big deal - my husband has worn the same Lee jeans on weekends for the past 20+ years, so that gives you some idea. The funny thing is - he really likes me trying new things, and just about everything that Angie has recommended has worked out very well. So when I suggested to him that Angie thinks the coats/jackets for men at Macy's are a good deal right now - what does he do? Changes his entire tune and heads right in there to try stuff on.

WOW! I am SO impressed with hubby, Velvety! Please give him an extra hug for me. I hope that hubs *really* enjoys his new coat because he made the effort to shop with his lovely wife to get it

And Angie's 100% right again! Today, I went to return two coats I'd bought for myself at Macy's last weekend during the crazy Black Friday sale - and I was able to get my husband to come into the store and try on some wool jackets (outerwear, not blazers). We found a fabulous Ralph Lauren pea coat for just $112 (!!!!) before taxes (an incredibly good deal). The jacket was on sale for 50% off, plus I was able to use a 25% off coupon on top of that. Just for the record, Macy's is having their "friends and family" sale this weekend (until Dec 5th I think it is) - good for an additional 25% off just about everything and not like the regular coupons that don't work for a long list of excluded items.

Don't laugh, but when I told my husband that Angie said Macy's was a good bet for men's coats/jackets right about now - that was what convinced him to actually come into the store, instead of waiting in the car. My husband is very conservative when it comes to clothes, but he has liked a lot of the new things I've tried out since finding YLF, and it's somehow rubbing off on him, just a wee bit.

So there you have it - Angie made my husband go into a store and try on jackets on his day off. He works killer hours, has a very intense job, and just isn't "into" clothes (at least for himself).

Finally! Not a Home Depot, not an electronics place...he actually went in and tried stuff on!

We had to stop off at Costco to get a few groceries, and they had some rather nice- looking men's cashmere scarves on special ($30) - managed to get him over there too...the price was such a low price, but because my husband doesn't "do apparel" (his words), he had no idea that the scarves were priced really low. Yes, we got him a nice cashmere scarf too.

So much fun

Yay for the YLF effect!

eta: now what am I going to get him for Christmas? I've got a few small-ish things wrapped up, and of course I'll make him a stocking, but ....ack! I'm going to have to come up with some sort of high-tech goodie now that he's already got his winter jacket.

eta (again): vicki - I did suggest a pea coat after your post suggesting a J Crew pea coat. So that's what he went for when scoping out the racks at the local dept. store. Thank you! I can't quite get him into a J Crew store just yet, but I *am* working on it.

Thank you - that does look like a nice one! Hmm...I'm going to look quite a bit over the next couple of days. I put one on hold at Nordstrom Rack this afternoon, but I'm not 100% sure about it just yet. I kind of like the J. Crew one better.

I've spent all morning here avoiding the upcoming dreaded dental appt. - fun place to hang out when you want to forget about something that's nagging at you :)

My husband must be catching some YLF-ness or something, because he now wants a wool jacket (not a blazer, but a shorter coat). Right now he's got an *ancient* down bomber jacket (hardly ever worn, just for snow shoveling in severely cold weather), a basic brown leather bomber jacket and a long grey overcoat type of thing. He doesn't wear the overcoat very often, but it comes in handy if he has to get really dressed up. The brown leather jacket isn't ideal in the worst of the winter months.

I'd like to find him something that'll work for the workweek as well as with jeans and such on the weekends. He doesn't have to wear suits to work, but he does wear dress pants and dress shirts etc.

Does anyone have any good ideas? A peacoat sort of thing? Some other style? I'd like to get him something really *good* because he's one of those types that'll keep wearing the same thing for years. I don't mind spending a bit more for something like this, and I'd like to find something that is better quality and feels soft (ie. not scratchy, that'd drive him crazy).

Ok - off to the dreaded dentist appt.
