This is similar to the JCrew one; dunno if this is the kind of thing you had in mind, but I recently bought it and it's quite nice.

My first thought was a sleeveless "popover" blouse. J Crew has a nice one, though it's currently sold out online in larger sizes. If you have a local store it might be worth checking out.

I think this everlane silk sleeveless shirt might be a good one to try:

https://www.everlane.com/colle.....less-white

They may have some other silk shells to look at as well.

ETA: Sorry I missed the sizing - everlane really needs to get with their sizing options - I'm already at the L myself and usually I wear an 8 or 10 (for roomy)

The courier shirt has a lot of material in the shoulders so if your plan is to layer over it you may be disappointed.

Try the Madewell site. I think it's in a nice bright white there. Can't guarantee the sizing, as I think they cater to a younger clientele. I've bought blouses from there that seemed roomy, but the Courier is more tailored.

tulle, thanks for the suggestion. I worry that XL is described as a 14. If it ran huge, maybe that would work... but the color on the Nordy's site is ivory. I'll poke around and see if I can find a white one to order.

Suz, I saw that one and thought it might work, but it's ivory, not white. Every time I put on ivory or ecru or any other nearly white color, I just don't feel as good.

Amy, have you looked at Madewell's White Cotton Courier Shirt? It's a cotton twill, so it has a bit of substance, I think. Comes in XL (14) and has short sleeves. I haven't seen it in person, but it seems to be a popular shirt. Good luck!

So. I'm on the cusp of plus size. I tend to wear an XL if the item is knit with no buttons involved, but I size up for button-down blouses. I have a couple of no-iron white oxford shirts, but I'm looking for something more like a shell. But not a shell because all the ones I've tried are quite translucent. And I don't want to wear a cami. I want a substantial pull-over-my-head blouse with short or no sleeves that can be worn tucked or untucked, dressed up or down, and is comfy. I feel better in white, not ecru or winter white or ivory. Can anyone point me in a specific direction? I've tried on the usual suspects at NAS and none of them are quite right. I have a great top from CAbi that fits the bill but it's been a workhorse, and it's time to retire it.
