I have had good luck with Calvin Klein invisibles. They aren't athletic underwear per se, but they are a thin material that doesn't seem to hold onto sweat.

Following this thread with interest. I only wear leggings for hiking and go commando like Carla - because of the exact same underwear fit problems you mention. I do wear the Soma vanishing edge but I don’t like the rubber bits if I’m going to get sweaty, so I’ve given up on athletic underwear. If you find a winner, please share! I hate shopping for underwear.

I like Patagonia Capilene for synthetic. The cut varies a bit from year to year, which bothers some people, but the pairs I have from different eras all fit me well. They have a "Barely" line that is a little less sporty in its look and its cut than the original models.

That said, I’m a merino evangelist and think you should check out Icebreaker, Ibex, or Branwyn. Icebreaker’s " Siren" bikini was too skimpy in the back for me, but if you like less material on the booty, they may work for you. Ibex is a recent relaunch (the company closed down and an investment group bought the rights), but their new product line looks solid. Branwyn used to be called Stay Gldn, but they've rebranded and expanded their product line a bit. Product is still great. I find merino to be so much nicer feeling (and smelling) than cotton or synthetic. I’d say about half my underwear and most of my bras are merino. They’re so nice they’ve migrated from gear use into daily rotation. Also, DH's favorite for himself is Ridge Merino; I haven't tried their women's line but the fabric is really nice.

I wear Jockey bikini cut with the no VPL promise. There is a VPL in my Yoga leggings but the only way to avoid that is a thong. If I am worried about that I wear a Hanky Panky low rise thong.

I have Athleta and Patagonia underwear that I wear in similar scenarios. REI generally has a good selection of a variety of brands, too.

I’ve also simply used Soma vanishing edge undies (high cut bikini), as they don’t give me any chaffing at the edges during sweaty activities. Though I generally use the sports brands in our hottest weather.

I like Uniqlo seamless styles. They are made of some kind of engineered fabric that is so futuristic my husband calls them "space pants." They're awesome for gym or travel because they're super wicking and super quick drying.

Well, my everyday underwear is a little, um, fancy for workouts. I wear On Gossamer mesh panties and I prefer to not work out in them! I want something a little sturdier to hike and do dirty, sweaty activity like yard work or cleaning the garage.

I mean , sports bras , yes , but I never considered different panties for hiking or other workouts . Lol! And I’m with Carla - Jockey is my brand of choice If I need something other than nothing ( which is how I roll with workout gear / tights etc.

I also go commando with cycling and running tights, but I need something comfy for hiking (I wear loose pants for that). I’ll check out Jockey’s offerings. It’s been years since I tried them.

Lululemon aren’t bad but the fit isn’t perfect either. I have some old Ex Officio pairs that are just too baggy in the butt.

For anything that is done in a Lycra type bottom, I go commando. Most of my Lycra kit has a reinforced crotch or chamois. If it is a looser fit thing, where I am expecting to get sweaty (gardening, hiking) I like a lightweight high cut Jockey synthetic u-pant, I only wear sports kit for the activity, and never for ‘just around the house’. I also get out of sports bras ASAP after the activity. Too much compression for too long can cause nerve damage!

I've had great experience with Wacoal for briefs. I recently got these:
Check out this Wacoal Cotton Suede Lace Trim High Cut Briefs from Nordstrom: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/3651369

They are cotton, which might not be ideal for working out. But maybe there are similar non cotton pairs?

I also have used these bras in the past and liked them. I was a 32DDD.
Check out this Wacoal Underwire Sports Bra from Nordstrom: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/3006129

Check out this Wacoal Contour Underwire Sports Bra from Nordstrom: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/5513643

I currently use a Cake nursing underwire sports bra which is just as good!

For clothing I have a couple Ivy Park leggings I love!

Hey all! The time has come — my old athletic/travel underwear, used mainly for hiking, is not long for this world, and I need to consider refreshing that capsule. Considering new options.

My preferences:

- breathable and lightweight
- bikini cut — I don’t like briefs and boy shorts do not work on my body
- fairly high cut on the thigh and not cut too generous in the booty — I have wide hips and big thighs so I sometimes have fit issues — I size up for a larger leg opening only to end up with too much fabric in the backside, resulting in wedgies. No fun. And some bikini cuts are too skimpy in the behind, which also leads to wedgies!

Suggestions welcome!
