Go back to my layering blog post:

http://youlookfab.com/2011/11/.....ring-tops/

AT and BR get my top vote for layering turtle necks this season. The INC ones are nice, but too short for you, Janet. AND, the ones from BR and AT are better quality.

Best layering turtleneck for blokes this season is from J. Crew.

J Crew Tissue turtleneck tees ..... I love them. They're thin and stretchy and don't obstruct the awesome -ness of an outfit.

I was going to suggest Lands End as well. Their online shopping service is great.

I second the Lands' End ones.

I like the ones that are Cotton Modal that Ana linked to. Lightweight, silky and with stretch. Wash really well, too.

I just scored two trom the Target clearance racks. I bought the navy but I also saw a rust color. They are light weight with a "micro-rib" (but not so thin as to be tissue weight) cotton/modal/spandex and are generous in the hem and sleeve lengths. The neck is not too tight at all. I don't know if they have them online, but the brand is Mossimo and the item number is 016 05 1173. They were $10.48. I got my regular size. Try this link, it's the first one in the line-up.

I really like this one from Land's End:

http://www.landsend.com/pp/Tur.....038;sku_0=::BLA&CM_MERCH=IDX_Overstocks-_-Women-_-KnitTopsPolosTurtlenecks&origin=index

It's not tissue thin, like the layering turtlenecks from J. Crew, but it's not as thick as a sweater. And they really hold up pretty well for a cotton knit. I'm not sure if you remember, but It's the same one I was wearing in the blazer/striped turtleneck/converse outfit from a few weeks ago. I size down from my regular size. So I'm usually a straight M everywhere, but I buy these in S and they aren't clingy or loose. I think they're just right for layering.

i think Angie was recommending some from Macy's... or maybe those were only 3/4 sleeve length. Have you looked at Express? They tend to have nice knit wear.

I don't wear turtlenecks often, but in the winter I do like to layer them underneath other pieces sometimes. My old black one is on its last legs -- I wore it yesterday and realized the neck was stretched out and falling down.

Any recommendations for good quality new ones? I like them on the lightweight side, soft fabric, with a neck that fits and stays up without being too tight.
