I've never been (outside an airport stop) to the Kimberleys. Destination for another trip some time (maybe flying rather than driving!?)</p> <p>Rachy - I had two short little runs just around the campsite and then&nbsp; longer ones in Exmouth (one of the coastal towns we stayed in) - around the town and up and down the road into the town</p> <p>khards - it would be a great place for you to visit Plenty of international visitor there!(mostly from Europe though)</p> <p>Joyce - getting rid of the gasoline smell is still a work in progress. I followed some instructions the next day that we googled with some of the clothes - soaked in water with plenty of dishwashing liquid then washed in hot water then line dried- that worked well for most things except for some that were a bit thicker.&nbsp;</p> <p>The rest we put in a bag and waited till we got home which was probably a mistake - I 've just repeated that&nbsp; process with some of them and they still smell a bit on the line. However I don't think my dishwash liquid was as strong this time. I've bought some more potent stuff to try and a currently soaking my day pack - which also got petrol on it because it spilled in the trailer we were using to transport all our stuff.<br />The article also suggested baking soda, vinegar and ammonia, so I'll try those out if needed!</p> <p>Janet - I had to look up Kauai! As a teen I used to spend my May school holidays in Broome and camping in the Kimberley's with my family - some of the best holiday memories ever - although not when I was swimming in a gorge and saw a crocodile and silently freaked out. The owner of the station thought it was hilarious because it was "only a freshie, they don't eat you". It was still pretty big at over a metre long! Our destination was Karijini National park, which has amazing&nbsp; gorges (pics to follow), though we also had a few days at coastal places on the way back. Altogether we had 6 days of driving, and 6 times of setting up tents. It was a great break from normal life (not much internet either)</p> <p>Clothes notes</p> <p>Not a clean holiday. Everything comes back with red dust all over it. I just went with it.&nbsp; I didn't bring enough clothes to change every day and that was ok.No makeup either.</p> <p>Shoes<br />. I bought 4 pairs and that was just right<br />1 good new&nbsp; running shoes solely for running use</p> <p>2 old running shoes for hiking</p> <p>3&nbsp; cheap fashion sneakers for driving days and to change into when the running shoes got soaked from hiking and swimming though streams</p> <p>4 Very old slides for quick trips to the loo in the middle of the night</p> <p>Bathers<br />I forgot mine. But my running skirt and parkrun tee shirt were fine to wear instead.</p> <p>Cold weather<br />Though warm in the day it was cold at night and I was glad of my new puffer. I kept one jumper (sweater) clean to wear for the one meal out we had after leaving the national park. Enjoyed my new fleece tracksuit pants and new stretch skinnies which both doubled for sleeping.</p> <p>Washing mishap</p> <p>DH's shirt got soaked with petrol (gasoline).&nbsp; I stuck in in in the wash with a load of the whole families clothes on day 7. BAD move!!&nbsp; Spent a while working on remedies for a whole load of smelly clothes.</p> <p>Thanks for reading.&nbsp; Happy to provide more details of what I packed if anyone might be contemplating a similar trip. </p>
