Oh Shevia! You are soooo good at helping me see things with new eyes thank you! I am going to give the jacket more of a chance. Looking at it again, it has a 1930s vibe to me they did a lot with shoulders, cascading folds, and such in the 30s. So I'm going to think of this as my 1930s look!

Smitty, first off, love your name! It's just so fun! Reminds me of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, when someone calls Jimmy Stewart's character Smitty.

I have a really fabulous thick J. Crew belt in oxblood. So I will def give that a try!! I think it will look really smashing with the all the black!

You're right: there is an echoing of my hair in the beige dress. Thanks for pointing it out! Makes me feel better about choosing beige :)

As for knit dresses... there are a new love for me. I have always secretly had a crush on them. But I was very obese in high school with very low self confidence. I never tried wearing them. Now, I'm all about the sweater dress. I even knit one on a beautiful reddish plum!! Once I find it, I'll post a photo of it.

Yes to glamour!!! I am very much old school, Old Hollywood in my tastes. The women were so rich and sophisticated, and glamorous. I love classic movies. And when I watched Gangster Squad I swooned over Emma Stone's wardrobe and makeup. I like the chic looks of the 60s, and some of the 50s. But the 40s and even the 20s (Miss Fisher, you are my style icon!!) are my thing.

I think sexy is all about what you make it. To me it is not about super tight, or over revealing skin, cleavage etc. It's really about feeling good in my skin, and wearing very nice lingerie underneath. It's more mindset and intention. Sophia Loren to me is sexy, but she isn't sexy by today's definition of sexy. Iconically sexy, yes. But mild by today's standards.

I think you could also wear the beige dress with long sleeves under it.

These are great looks! Very inspiring and I like how you include "glamorous" and "sexy" as part of your words. I don't have the guts to add "sexy" but maybe I will try to think "glamorous" for my next shopping excursion and see what happens there. I like glamour!

Anyway, I really like any dress that is knit, right off the bat, so two thumbs up for the black dress and beige one.

I think the black dress is the right size and I like the belt idea. You could also try a thick belt.

Love the beige colour with the boots! I also love the silhouette. I understand that beige is not the best colour on a lot of people, but I think that with your brown hair, it works.

The jacket is nice too.

So here's my recent thrift store purchases.

1-3: black cowl neck sweater dress, Target.

It's only a size large. I think it must be worn with tights or leggings. But I could see maybe doing it with some bootcut jeans for a fun take, even though I have not always been keen on the dress+jeans trend.

I think it really needs a belt to help bring the eye up. But open to differing opinions!

Do you think it's too snug or small?? I can definitely see my saddlebags. BUT I also like how it pegs around my knees for a pencil skirt effect.

4-8: Wool blend shift dress, Cynthia Rowley.

I love the 50s/60s vibe of it!! It's dry clean only which I just saw; not baby friendly. But oh well! $10 NWT made it a steal.

It has pockets!! Love pockets. It also feels a bit Joan Holloway with the collar.

Not my favorite neutral. I need and prefer a richer camel. But ya know, it works. I think it would look very good paired with a sheer chiffon blouse underneath it too, and some heels and strong eyeliner.

9-11: nice weight sweatshirt fleece jacket, Blanc Noir.

This jacket really caught my eye. Not certain why because it has that fairytale/Once Upon A Time/LOTR elven feeling to it, and that's not a look I have ever worn. I admire it, especially on others. But not what I typically wear myself.

It has great lines and details, features my waist, finishes at a flattering length, good quality, and the color is quite different for me. On the hanger, I just LOVED it. I feel a bit unsure wearing it though. It doesn't fit my style descriptors of glamorous, bohemian, feminine, sexy, chic, or effortless. I am keeping it for now and will see if it gets any wears.

ETA: sincerest apologies! I did not mean to mark this as Urgent but cannot change category now. :(
