These are all good choices. I like that blue plaid coat and it would probably look nice with a snood in a light color.

Athleta is dong well lately. There were a couple of years after Gap bought them, when I thought they were doomed to being too generic. But their style is really good lately, plus I love the fact that you can return the clothes after wearing them if they don't suit you.

Joy, my color swatches have two white shades. They are the hardest of the colors to match. One seems warmer and the other has more grey, or cool tint. It confuses me a bit, but I actually think the Jane Post may be a little on the cool side. Does anyone know if there is a correct white for a light summer? The color specialist told me to look for winter white for now, because it would be easy to find. I assume that is slightly softer, and maybe warmer looking like the faux fur coat.

Well, I have sugar eye for large dramatic collars and I disagree with Deb about their wearability. (Also, you are on the tall side, correct? So that will make them easier for you to wear, even if she is correct.) Anyway, I think factors such as the wearer's neck length, head size, shoulder breadth, etc. need to be taking into account as well as height, per se. With your body type I think the collars should be flattering and I look forward to testing out my theory when the items arrive.

LOVE that Gap half zip. WOW, I am seriously considering that for myself, as well. Thanks for the link.

What an impressive group. I really like the UBC. Thinking of color, the first two coats look like different shades of white. Does one shade look better than the other on you?
The Athleta pants remind me that I've been looking for something like this for exercise. I want fluid but not the wide legs and not skinny either. Any recommendations?

I like coat #1 especially because I think the proportions would be good for you and will work with scarves.
The half zip top also look just like your style- trim but easy. I can see why you got it. Hope to see some WIW's in these!

Deb, you may be correct about the large collar on the Tracy Reese coat. I considered that, but since it was on sale, I decided to give it a try. Nordstrom's has a liberal return policy. Yes, the snake print blouse is definitely a statement, and is likely to be of limited time use. I only have a few blouses right now though, so I will be wearing it quite a bit. I ended up returning two rather basic plain white silk blouses in exchange for these. I'm hoping I made the right choice. I still have one simple white silk blouse, and I think that is enough.

Dianthus, That neckline on the plaid would definitely work on the right person. I have a long neck, so I need a collar, or I would need to wear it with something that had a collar. The first white coat is easily cleaned by wiping it with a damp cloth. If it gets dirty, it won't stay dirty. The second coat is more of an issue. I'm glad it's short, so there is less of a chance of it getting salty or picking up muddy slush from sidewalks. I will have to be careful not to brush it against my car! I bet it will spot clean, but I will have to see.

I am drawn to the first two coats but always worry about really light coats in non-washable fabrics. I agree that the poncho is all kinds of wonderful too and have been thinking about something similar for at the office. I agree with your assessment of the plaid. I really like the print but find something not quite right about it. Perhaps it is the round neck which I find is hard to wear with most necklines.

You have found some great pieces in your new palette. I look forward to seeing the outfits.

You've picked some beautiful pieces here and most will definitely make a statement. The white coats, striking cape, gear and shirts, especially the cobra print one, really appeal. After seeing you in the white knits recently, I imagine the white/off white coats will look great on you. #5 is a trendy print which may look so last year next year but it sounds like you are not as keen on that one anyway. I do think blue suits you a lot, though perhaps not that blue....more the blue of your plaid shirt. #3 is an interesting choice with lovely neutrals, so long as you don't tire of the pattern and the grey works with your complexion. It will be interesting to see how much you like it when it makes it through your door. My concern with this coat is that large collars aren't necessarily the best choice for smaller women, which may or may not be worth considering. Hopefully it will be perfect for you and make the statement you are seeking.

Thanks Thimlelina! My son will be happy to hear that! Oh, and tell your friend at Athleta how happy I am that they make small tall sizes! They fit me perfectly every time! I hope they don't change their fit model!

Some lovely pieces here! Especially love the athleta metro slouch pants. (I know one of their new product developers. I will let her know that athleta is showing up here more & more. They've really stepped up their fashion game, haven't they?) I think that poncho is all kinds of wonderful.

I'm currently doing well with most basics in my new light summer colors. My coat capsule is currently lacking and as you can see below, I am working on it. In addition to what you see, I am in search of a leather jacket - probably moto style in either a light blue, pinkish red, or light gray. I am also looking for a rain coat/trench coat with a truly warm zip out lining. One that can be used in freezing rain type of weather, which is what we have here fairly frequently. In addition to lot of cold and snow!!!!.

I am reposting this Jane Post rain coat. Firstly, it's a statement coat, and definitely not a basic coat. If I wanted basic, I would have gone to EMS, or purchased one from The North Face. In fact, I will probably get a basic rain trench from one of these more practical places and use the Jane Post for more limited use. I am also posting it because I love the shape and it served as inspiration for the purchase of the second coat in the pictures below. The Gallery Faux Fur Shawl Collar Coat. Obviously this isn't for everyday use! It's a special occasion coat to replace my Cole Hahn which I wear for plays, concerts, going out, etc.,when I am not wearing a long dress. Which reminds me that I will eventually need one for long dresses also!

Coat three, the Plenty by Tracy Reese looks like it could also be a Wild Card, however, I think I could wear this one to work if it isn't too cold out. I love to have an eye catching coat, and this one has potential. I looked at pictures of it on three websites, Nordstroms, Tracy Reese, and Amazon. The colors look slightly different on all three. I just ordered it so I am not sure exactly what I'm getting?! The pic 4 poncho is something I already own, and plan to keep as part of my coat capsule. I bought it last year at a local shop. My son fondly call's it the ugly blanket cape (UBC)! This is one of the best things for a cold conference room or office Pic 5 is something I decided against because it doesn't really fit my style but I thought the plaid was pretty and someone else might like it? I bet it would make a nice topper in a cold office. (I have the UBC for that!)

Next are two tops I bought that may be basic, but they both have some embellishment, which for me makes them statement pieces, Most of my tops, are solids with very little embellishment or pattern. The shapes may change, there may be darts, or different lengths, but not typically much else. On rare occasion I have a top with some embroidery, texture, eyelet, or some other design element, and those would be my statement pieces. (I'm typically a subtle, quiet statement maker when it comes to my tops! It's my shoes, my coats, scarves and jewelry that make the statements.) In this case, one shirt has ladder stitching, and the other has a snake print pattern.

Even my gear is getting a bit of an overhaul with what I consider to be some statement pieces. I recently purchased this Snowscape half zip from Athleta/Gap. It's definitely not my standard simple yoga pant or "breathe" top (my favorite from Athleta). I crossed a barrier and went for space dye and quilting! I have no idea what possessed me, but I can already say that I love it. I have been wearing it everywhere that I'm not wearing my everyday clothes. It's stretchy, warm, and soft and it's proving very practical. I wore it to an all day Pilates Instructor training course, I wore it one day when I stayed home from work with a migraine headache. I wear it when I am warming up for yoga or pilates. So far it's washing well. I think I may order a second. The last item is the Metro Slouch Pant from Athleta. I finally found a pair of loose baggy pants I like! Now I need to figure out what to wear with them!
