This is what I do-I wonder if its not ethical since nobody else seems to do it :-) If they are out of my size I order a different size and then just exchange it once the item is in stock for the regular season. I have been commended for this by Nordstrom SAs as a smart idea so maybe its not that bad of a practice?

I just learned you can exchange sizes after the sale, when items are restocked, and do so at the sale price. I wanted to try a jacket in a smaller size, but that size is no longer available online. So I used the chat feature to inquire about getting the item. Here's the answer I got: "As this is an
anniversary item, it will be restocked once the sale ends. At that time,
you will still be able to exchange it for the size you need.... [The exchange will be at the sale price] as long as it is for a different size, and not a different item!"

Yes, I agree with BrieN. If there's something you really want, call or ask a SA to do a store search. There's usually one or two of anything somewhere in the country. I just got on of my sold-out ISOs that way.

My SA explained that Nordstrom and the labels/manufacturers have negotiated a fixed number of items to be sold at the reduced price early in the season for NAS. Generally once that number has been sold, they're gone until the next Fall shipment arrives at full price. That said I think there are some lines that restock during the sale but I don't know how to determine which they would be ahead of time.

I have tracked down two sold out items this season by asking my SA to look them up in their system. They found them in a Nordies a couple of states over and have had them shipped to me.

It is very hard to predict what will be restocked. So next year,if there is something that you absolutely love, I'd buy it right away. However, and this is a big however, a lot of things reappear a few months after the sale and at prices that are the same or lower than the anniversary sale prices. So I often wait

I think that is correct, njw. Some are labelled "Nordstrom exclusives" so they aren't sold anywhere else. Some they can predict heavy sales for, and probably have backup orders in the wings. Some are their own brand, so they will probably be restocked after the sale (but not at sale prices and not always in the same colours/ patterns) -- e.g. Halogen.

I am thinking some items are unique to Nordstroms for the Anniv. sale only, i.e. the LongChamp bag...so maybe what happens is a company only makes so many and then they are gone whereas the T. Turk coat that Banoffi referenced is a coat the company sells and has lots of inventory ?

I'm not positive, but it looks like some items are restocked during NAS and come back in most or all sizes and colors. (This happened with the Trina Turk Military Coat in petite sizing). The only time other sold-out items become available, however, is when there are returns and then the item only come back in a size or two.

It depends on the item and your size. If you are purchasing a higher end popular item and/or you are on either end of the size curve, my motto is buy buy quick during pre sale. It may not come back into stock or may only reappear for seconds on the first day of the official sale.

Is this usual practice that anniv. items are not re-stocked? It seems that the only time a sold out item is avail. is if there is a return. Has it always been this way? If so I will approach the sale differently next year. Thanks in advance
