Okay, I'm going to defend dress 2 here - although the blue makes your waist look longer, the actual cut nips in. The first thing I thought when I saw the photo was "Wow, I didn't know Kim had such a tiny waist!"

As far as dress #1, I have nothing against a swingy shift dress as you know, but something about it is a little too sweet for me. So you'll have to discount my opinion accordingly.

I like all of them, but each is different.
#1 is pretty but is a stand alone dress for me, I don't think it will be easy to layer. Especially in fall/winter, if you need a pretty summer dress I vote keep.
#3 love these colors, unsure about the length so I defer to others, also I think it is quite layering friendly for other seasons. I vote keep, it's my favorite of the bunch.
#5 the dots are fun, but this looks the most formal dress of the bunch. I think accessories will really dress it up or down. Based on the photo, I think it's too dressy for the grocery store, however, material will really affect this choice. If the material is not shiny, it won't be as dressy IRL. I vote keep if the material is not dressy.

You are very fit and I agree that #1 and #2 do you a disservice. I love polka-dots! #3 is the best but I don't know if it's a 10. Take my opinion with a grain of salt, I don't wear dresses much...but the staps seem a little wide and the dress a little long. It still looks a little matronly for you.

Hi Kim! I think the first dress is pretty and looks cool and breezy and great for summer, though I'm not wild about it with those sandals. I can see it with simple flat t-strap sandals or some nude or silver wedges. To me the print is soft and pretty and classic and calls for a light, classic sandal. And I like it without the jacket and boots, which seem too heavy for it. I think that's a pink cardi kind of dress.

The second dress just does not seem to belong on you. The stripes are overwhelming your slender frame and the colors are not jiving with yours. Sorry. :(

I can't decide about the third dress. The shape seems OK, but maybe the print is a bit too big, or high contrast? I think I'd need to see your face with it to be sure.

I think the polarization on #1 has to do with the whole pro-waist-surrendering crowd vs. the never-surrender-your-waist-always-"show off"-your-figure crowd, with some additional opinions based on the color scheme of pink and white. I happen to like the loose, surrender-your-waistline look, so I like the cut of the dress on you. It seems like it would be nice and easy for hot summer days. I am not a huge fan of pink, but I know that you wear lots of pink, so in that sense, the color scheme is "you" vs. the second dress, which doesn't seem like "you" somehow to me (looks a bit too boho, with the earthy tones, sort-of-tie-dye fabric, and cut). I'm sort of ambivalent on #3. At first I really liked it, but I wonder if it's somehow a bit fussy. Though maybe swapping out the self-belt for a black one would jazz it up nicely...

How's that to add murkiness to the picture :)? You need Angie's take!

yes, all three are woven.
I'm surprised at such polarized opinions of #1. I'm not offended in the least, just surprised. It makes it harder to make up my mind. I have such a hard time with dresses because for the most part I am going for casual, but so much of what I consider casual doesn't translate so well on me. If I were looking for office appropriate dresses, I'd be in hog heaven. And any dress that is more than $40 or $50 needs to be able to stick around for atleast 2 years in my closet. (FWIW.. dress 1 was $45 and dress 3 was $75) I know, more info than you asked for, but sometimes knowing prices helps I think.

I decided last night that before I make a final decision on 1 or 3, I"m going to wear a dress a day until I've worn all the dresses in my closet. (about 10) That might help me get clarity on what I really need and you all can help me decide what needs to go.

or maybe I'll just go back to wearing shorts and tank tops

I really like #1 as a shift that you can throw on during the summer and look perfectly polished. I see what others say about the side view but it doesn't bother me. It looks like it would be lovely in motion. #2 I vote return. That dress makes your waist look loooong and I dislike the color scheme. #3 is perfectly looks retro and fun. I like the fit and flare on you. These are all so different that I'm having a hard time with a rating. I consider your Valentines sheath and your Karen Kane kerchief hem dress both 10s. The first floral is a 10 for what it is--a easy, breezy summer shift. I love wovens when it's hot--it is woven, isn't it?

I love the third, it is a 10 to me. It could be casual with sandals, or dressy with heels. The second has potential if it were tailored to fit and shortened? I personally like the idea of the first dress, but in my mind I'm comparing it to you Valentine's DayEaster dress, and even given that you are after a casual dress, it doesn't compare. thx for posting!

Dress 1 - Makes me think of a MuMu.

Dress 2 - Looks a little big around but might be ok with a belt & a different bra. The length is on trend and the colour is kinda fun.

Dress 3 - My favourite of the 3. The shape is good and the print is not too big or too smalle.

I would swap out the belt that it came with though. Almost always makes a dress look better IMO.

ETA - Dress 2 is a casual only option but dress 3 can be dressed up or down to suit the occasion.

I haven't read other comments yet:

Dress 1: Ouch, my teeth hurt looking at it; hard to see this as an everyday dress for you. It's a very, very sweet dress. It looks nice, but it's not what I would have pictured as "your" style (in my limited experience with "your" style). But maybe I haven't "seen" enough of your outfits yet.

Dress 2: I LOVE this dress on you. I think the colors are fantastic on you. I'm not crazy about those shoes with it. I bought a similar pair of shoes at Kohl's but returned them because they didn't seem to work for me (the Apt 9 vesper sandals that looked so awesome on chewys but didn't work for me). Maybe you could try the Apt 9 August dress sandal with this instead?

Dress 3: I think I love this dress on you too. Good point about trying the colors out with a different background.

I don't really trust my own judgement, but want to say that I do like the first dress on you! It's a pretty fresh print and an easy sophisticated fit. I don't like it with the black sweater and boots (I'm a low contrast lover), but if you have a bright cropped sweater and sandals, I'd see it as an easy summer dress for almost anything!

Second dress is too long in the bust. If it was taken up at the shoulders, I know I'd like it *better*, but I am still struggling with midi length skirts, so I'm not really a big fan of it.

Third dress fits you well and has a great retro fit-n-flare style, but the print *is* an eyeful. For low contrast me, that sometimes means I avoid wearing something -- like I'm not 'up to it' on most days. . .so if you can handle the print, I'd keep it.

Okay, I'm seeing only three dresses. The blue multi-color v-neck is KILLER! At least to my eye. You are a total knockout in it. The black and white one is a close second. I see the appeal of the floral one, but I'm not loving it as much.

oh no, my mind isn't made up... it changes every 5 minutes.

I am feeling the same way as you about the floral dress Sarah. We don't walk around with our arms up, and I was really drawn to the lightweight summery feel of it. I had played with styling it the other day. But I don't want to be limited to having to style it t to wear it. I wanted something I could throw on with a pair of sandals and bop around town on a hot day. What do we think now? I'm really not trying to sway anybody.

haha- and I like the Kohl's sandals with it... maybe I won't return them after all.

I'm feeling overwhelmed in the print of number 3. I'm going to try it again and style it, but I can't have any negative feelings to decide to keep a dress.

Hmmm... I'm no good at ratings, so I'll just give my two cents, even tho it sounds like you've made up your mind. I actually like #1 quite a bit in that waste-surrendering sort of way. I think it looks a bit strange from the side only because you're holding up your arm to take the photo. And #3 is very flattering on you. I'm not so fond of #2.

My 2 cents:

Dress 1: 7 looks good on you...I think you live in a climate where you can wear this a lot...in my neck of the woods I might be able to wear it once or twice a year
Dress 2: 2 colors are too muddy with your coloring, I think
Dress 3: 9, very sharp look, crisp and cool-looking...me likee!

You have great taste, good luck as you decide which to keep and/or return.

I actually like dress #2 but the fit seems off. Maybe it needs ironing so we can see better how it drapes. I also want to see it with your wedge sandals.

QM, I really like #3. The other two aren't worthy of your fabness. (Is that a word?)

You're going to laugh...because of your profile pic I always associate you with Queen Elizabeth and thought you would look like her. LOL...you are so much prettier than her!!! Sorry for thinking that

elpgal- yes, #1 was from Loft. I loved the detail of that back neck tie.

I think I should do a different pic of #3 not standing in front of the white bathroom door and with my face showing before I make a final decision. That might give us all some better clarity.... stay tuned

The rating system is too hard for me to decide so i'm just going to say i really like the last dress. The middle one has potential...i want to put a wide-ish belt with it. And the first dress i don't care for.

Kim, #1 is from Loft, right? How did you like the back tie? I didn't get it because of that but I'll have to try it again and see.
