Does your jacket need to be waterproof or just water-resistant? I've decided that I need waterproof. Water-resistant always seems to get damp all the way through fairly quickly for me in Seattle.

Glad the suggestion helped, hopefully you can see it in person and evaluate. I really hope it works out. Also Angie's finds look great! I have no experience with Boden but have heard good things.

abc: awesome find, not sure how I missed it. At first glance, I may have discounted it because it looks so silky/shiny and I didn't go into the details thinking it would just be too thin and not practical. I'll see if they've got it in my store downtown and wander over. It looks very similar to my jacket as well.

Joy: thanks, REI was a bust for me last time I looked. They had some really cute jackets that would have been perfect but had no lining. I found it surprising too because layers and flexibility are what REI tends to be about.

My last one was from REI. It is REI brand but I don't think it looks like gear. I also have a short rain trench that I love that is Michael Kors from Nordstrom. What drives me crazy with many of these coats is that they make a crinkle noise when you walk.

Sorry for so many replies, I see you already checked Nordstrom...so maybe you saw this one and didn't like it. But hopefully my testimony will sway you to take a second look. :) (not affiliated in any way, just like sharing a good functional coat recommendation)

Also - try checking Angie's finds, I can't recall if she has called any out lately but usually she has recommendations in every clothing category of items that have worked well for her clients. Her word that an item is good is like gold to me.

Here it is

button off hood
zip out liner
removable belt
several color options too

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ca.....at/3335242

I can vouch for this coat. I have had mine for several years. I wash it in the machine. I add the liner when I want it, otherwise it's out. I never use the hood either. I got black and love it.

Hmm, what you describe is EXACTLY my trench coat. It's a Calvin Klein from a few years back, from Nordstrom.

Have you tried a search on Nordstrom website? They have a lot of good search features. Also Amazon, Zappos, 6pm, etc.

Search finds here on YLF too. Others "pin" their favorites so you can quickly narrow it down and see options.

The YLF forum is full of Seattleites (sp) so hopefully someone can chime in with a specific recommendation. I don't think you need to spend 2k.

I live in Seattle and rain is a very obvious part of my daily life (for most of the year). Years ago I picked up a cheap trench coach and I adore it. It's mid-thigh, mock double-breasted and has a belted tie (which I keep tucked in the pockets most of the time). I wear this jacket A LOT. It folds up small enough that I can tuck it into my bag and carry it around with me in the event I need it. I roll the sleeves up to make it 3/4 length sleeves if it's warmer out. It's just so versatile for me. The problem is that it's a fake rain jacket *G*. It has a v-neck style on the top that doesn't close so it attracts rain & wind and it has no liner. It's also cheap looking (to me) and is a plastic'y fabric so it makes me sweat sometimes.

My dilemma is that I cannot find a replacement for this jacket without spending thousands. I have another rain jacket which is a London Fog and I like the quality and look of it but it doesn't wear the same as my cheapie Fashion Bug jacket. Grr!

Any suggestions on a rain jacket that has the following characteristics:

Trench style - mid-thigh is good

Removable liner (fleece is fine but wool would be divine (though that typically puts it out of my preferred price point)

Buttons style is not important

Belted is preferred but not required

If it has a hood, it should be detachable. I prefer a rain hat.

Not navy or tan

I have a wool pea coat, a puffer coat, and a heavy winter rain parka but now need to get the rain jacket that will follow me through the seasons here. I've looked at my normal go-to places like LL Bean, Land's End, Nordstrom, and just .. not found anything.

Budget is not that flexible, I really don't want to spend more than $200 on this piece. I've found some amazing Burberry pieces but really .. $2k? :(

Suggestions are greatly appreciated!
