Tying up the loose ends here—I did eventually choose, but not just one.

I’m keeping the yellow plaid, which I can wear whether it looks rainy out or not, and the Laundry one, with black buttons and piping, which I will likely wear with all lengths of skirts/dresses and probably with pants too.

Thanks, everyone, for helping me work this out.

Thanks Ophelia, Sal, & Angie. I’m starting to come around to the idea of a short + a longer/dressier.

Cardiff Girl, I certainly experienced that “dreaded soggy bottom” after our walk!

Suz, I’ll have to sit on the lilac one, but the plaid one is long enough to cover the back of the seat.

Thanks, CarolS

N & Brooklyn, those are my faves too.

Sally, when we lived in Florida, I could run between raindrops like you do, but in Berlin, the chilly drizzle/rain can last weeks at a time.

Cat2, yes, “ something non-gear looking to wear with them and pants to work” is the point. Do you the yellow can fill that bill?

MaryBeth, I’m not sure why I love that dark purple one so much, but you’re right that it’s not the most useful here.

I like the double-breasted from the Rack & the blue Rei coat. One dressy & one sporty, & I don’t think you need a dressy one from what I recall. I’m not crazy about the color, collar & sleeve length of the mustard coat but realize I’m in the minority here.

It would be really hard to choose between these because they serve different purposes. I love the mustard plaid but I also like the longer single breasted coat for the reasons Cardiff girl mentions. If you are walking, a longer coat makes a lot of sense. If biking, the shorter one is great.

I have not read everyone’s comments so forgive me if l am repeating what has already been said.l love the mustard one but really a good raincoat is a long raincoat or else the rain just drips off the bottom and wets your bottom! So for this reason the single breasted white one gets my vote.I think that it looks very sixties elegant on you and it s longer so avoids the dreaded soggy bottom.

Mustard plaid is my favourite by a mile.

Second is the Laundry/Shelli Segal coat. A bit more neutral and longer, so possibly more versatile. (But not as much character as the plaid.)

sorry.....lol. I suppose you need to think about length if you need a long one or if a shorter would be better for biking etc. I don't actually own a raincoat even though I live in a rainy place. I do have a short shower jacket but otherwise I just run between buildings or use an umbrella.

Yes agree with Angie - I have a running/ biking jacket - and my olive raincoat. I also have a school warm jacket that is lined and an older one that I suspect I should retire. Whilst I do think less is more rain jackets maybe are an exception.

First of all: wooow serious hair envy! What beautiful tresses! I agree the mustard one is the winner here, interestingly enough, since I know you are a "summer" and in theory suit that palette best. Of the two coats, I like the single-breasted best. But I have a poison eye for double breasted... too formal, masculine, strict for me..

I think these all look great on you, but I'm immediately eliminating Option #1, because it isn't as long, and the point is to stay dry!

As I recall, you ride your bike quite a bit. So my second consideration would be "can I ride my bike easily in this?"

From there, I'd consider what sparks the most joy.

Not meant to confuse you more, but in the spirit of brain storming, La Ped makes a good point. I have THREE rain coats, which serve different purposes.

The orange is for light showers in warmer weather. The other two are for heavier cold rain, and the bone layers very well over jackets (and when I need to be a bit dressier). The yellow layers well over my thermaball puffer.

But then I am on foot almost exclusively - with doggies in tow - and live in a wet place. Your city walking lifestyle is not that different to mine!

LaPed, when I reread that, I realized “shower” could be the plumbing—but I’d have to keep tags safe.

Minaminu, I was lucky in the timing of that walk in the park!

Lyn67, 23 is the same as 12-17, with the piping and the flounce.

Kkards, seeing as my shorts were also drenched, considering length makes sense.

JamC, that yellow one did make me smile—but so did the one with piping.

Sally, those are the two I’m torn between!

Bijou, *grin*

Lozz_oz, I don’t wear much orange or yellow at all, but I think the mustard could be a good complementary color for all my berries.

I’ve got to go get ready for our next whistle stop, but I appreciate all your comments—I’m still very torn and undecided!

Its hard to have just one rain coat. I’ve found it’s really nice to have one townie option (longer, versatile neutral color, cottony hand, not necessarily packable) and one technical option (as light and breathable as possible, packable, shorter length for running and hiking, colour not so important but I err on the side of higher-vis).

My first inclination was to vote light blue trench (most classic) *and* dark blue jacket if you can get it one size up (most practical — and better with shorts and shorter sportier dresses). But.. the yellow plaid seems like it could maybe split the difference and do both, and it’s fun!

And you can test the waterproofness in the actual shower, just sayin’

I like the mustard one for one but find it too short for an all purpose thing. Then, my love goes for the two white ones (12&18) or is the nr 18 the light blue everybody praises-so I agree- if it's really waterproof is a score!

Of the ones you show, I would go with the mustard one. The style seems most like you! It looks like it fits the best and covers you hips. The blue one is too small and short, not good for a raincoat but okay for a wind breaker on a cool day. The others seem too formal.

Wow, two clear favorites, which are also my favorite two. I also like the dark one, but it was only available a size down. The double breasted one might be a bit too traditional for me.
The last few pictures are all with a sweatshirt (that is almost exactly the same color as the top I wore under it).

I’m starting to wonder about the Laundry one though. I like the flirtiiness of the flared bottom, but am wondering about what the length works with. Is that length ok with long pants, or with midi skirts/dresses?

I like the mustard too. I think it really suits you. And it would be nice and visible on a grey day on a bike.

I like them all but my least favourite is the single breasted light blue/grey (not as keen on the flared hem).
