I’m definitely a Heron! :-)

The quote resonates, as I feel my favorite clothes add to my persona without becoming the primary focus of attention. Rachel Comey’s designs are included in my wardrobe and I agree they meet this criteria, albeit they may reflect the showier parts of my plumage. I feel as though her designs magically combine minimalism with avant-garde...if that’s possible.

Rachel Comey pieces fit my frame perfectly....hence my heron status. My collection, accrued over many years, includes a blazer and matching trousers, a pair of jeans, three dresses, two skirts, an embellished tulle skirt/belt thing that I wear over jeans, a denim vest, and two tops. I have kept them through my closet edits because they continue to feel relevant, stylish and spark joy.

Great quote! I like Rachel Comey too. I have never tried anything from her on. I am definitely not a heron or ostrich.

I really enjoy Vanessa Friedman, she writes about fashion in a way that makes me think about fashion, life, living, image, politics and the all thing in between. Somehow she manages to but things together and puts words to things I’ve thought about but not been able to but words to.

Great quote! I like Rachel Comey but I don't know if one designer can be expected to do this for every woman - but the principle is inspiring.

Rachel Comey’s clothes appeal to me, but rarely fit me (they seem designed for herons and ostriches but not juncoes or indigo buntings) (I own a cardigan that dates from my entrée to YLF.) I came across this quote from NYT’s Vanessa Friedman about a recent Rachel Comey collection that appeals to me, that manifests what I would like from my clothing in general:

“These clothes do what fashion should do, which is frame the complexities of the wearer with grace but without oversimplification, so the person becomes more of who they are. The clothes don’t have an agenda of their own, but they facilitate the agenda of the woman who wears them.”
