That looked really nice: you should wear that polka dot dress more often, it is adorable on you.
I am glad you had such great time!

This is the outfit I ended up wearing. I felt I would be too self-conscious in the grey dress with the red bolero (as I had worn the same outfit to a previous race day), however I found another dress in the cupboard that I bought to wear to my son's Christening last year and wore it with the same accessories.

Had a great day catching up with old friends (some I haven't seen in about 8 years).

I think the outfit with the grey tartan dress is pure perfection, you look stunning!! Do you think you'll be cold wearing this, Amy (since you were saying you might feel a little uncomfortable)?

Thanks for your replies! I do think that #3 is a better overall look too, but I think I might feel a bit uncomfortable with wearing it again. I'm currently looking for a faux fur wrap so I'll see how I go sourcing one at short notice. I will try to remember to post again with the finished outfit after race day.

Our race day is a small local horse racing carnival, with free vegetable giveaways, fashions on the field, novelty watermelon races and lots more (oh of course some horse racing lol). But the best part of it is catching up with loads of old friends throughout the day, because it seems like everyone in our community goes along for a day of dressing up and fun.

What wonderful outfits! You look great in all of them. If you don't want to repeat #3, I'd go with #1a. I like the idea of the bolero, but in the photo it looks like not quite the right shade of red to really complement the dress. It's a great concept, though, especially with those ladylike gloves!

So, what is race day? We don't have that in the U.S.

Wow, you are a beauty in all three. The grey sheath dress looks like the best allover outfit, very nicely balanced with the hat, bolero and shoes (KILLER hat, btw). If you feel uncomfortable because you've worn it before, my second pick would be #1, with a wrap as you described.

All that said, I don't have any idea what Race Day is about! so feel free to pay no attention to me whatever. You will look fantastic, that is for sure : >

GOOD GRIEF! You are drop-dead GORGEOUS in all of these! I love them all, but #3 looks more 'race-day' to me. #1/2 look more ball-gown like. Can you repeat?

I have recently decided to attend our local Race Day and I didn't really want to buy anything new for it. I have a couple of options, but I'm not really sure of any of them. I will post some pics when my husband gets home with the camera, but for now I'll just get them clear in my mind.

#1: Vintage ivory strapless princess neckline dress with bronze(y) crystal heels and pearls. (This would be a very 50's type look and I thought of just playing it up by adding a pillbox hat, fake fur wrap or something equally ridiculous)

#1b: Ivory dress with red bolero. Not sure this works, especially with the bronze heels

#2: Grey tartan? strapless sheath dress with red bolero, black/red fascinator and black cage heels. (Unfortunately I have already worn this outfit to a previous races, which even my husband pointed out)

#3: Yellow sunray pleat backless top with black pencil skirt, black cage heels. (Have decided against this one already!)

I know this doesn't help you very much at the moment, but I will add pics as soon as I can. Really looking forward to your responses. I lay awake thinking these through last night, but came to the conclusion that the best people to ask would be you on YLF!

Any feedback and suggestions would be appreciated. I am currently trying to source a faux fur wrap for #1, as it is quite cool at the moment. Obviously hair and make-up will need to be done as well.
