Smittie, I agree with you about the structure. I have been thinking a lot about my style the past few days, especially since seeing the Rag and Bone Gilet and the two suits. I am going to head more in that direction with my style, but still keep a mix of soft in circulation. I like the contrast of soft with structure.

I purchased a Tory Burch shift for the summer and I have been wearing it a lot. I may eventually get another shift. I was attracted to it because of the length (42 inches) which is around knee length for me. So many shifts are short!

Wow StaysFit, you look amazing in the sheath dress, and the pant suit as well. Structured pieces work so well on you. Really, you should be modelling these for the designer.
Another option for you is the shift dress (not so fitted) which might be nice for weekends.

The Max Mara pants feel slightly tight in the thighs but the material isn't pulling anywhere. They pass the sit down test, etc. I'm not sure how they should fit? The model is wearing them loose but I have muscular legs so my thighs are large and generally fill out pant legs more than a slender model's. I'm used to trousers having a baggies fit. The dress and jacket feel great.

ETA: I know I don't really have large thighs everyone, it's just in proportion to the rest of me.

Oh nooo, you made me look more!!! I am lucky that MaxMara does not fit me so it rules itself out!
They look nice but particularly for the pants maybe a looser fit would work.
The dress is very nice too. I think that it is always best to try a few sizes before deciding on a keeper so I agree that it's a good idea to try a size up just to compare. And do the sit down test with both dress and pants.

How about trying different sizes on the pants and dress to compare. The cuts are fantastic for you, I think -- so really it is just a question of which size works best. No harm in comparing.

Suz, I need to revise what I said about the Sorels. The ankle fit is not narrow. They are pull on booties and the ankle is actually fairly wide, but I kind of like the look and how they feel when I walk in them. Some ankle height booties hurt my ankle because they rub against my ankle bone.

Colette, good points! Yes, I ordered two sizes of Sorels, and the smaller size was best.. I plan to wear these with a heavier sock so even though they are my regular size, I believe the sock thickness helped with sizing. I wish that could be true with the SW's! It's hard trying on fall/winter shoes in spring/summer right?! Remembering the temperature and how you will be wearing them is key!

Suz, thanks for remembering my friend! (She is going through a diagnostic process, but is feeling better today!). The Sorels have an elastic gore at the top and pull on. They seem good around the ankle. I have yet to find a boot that is truly snug in the ankle, but these are not bad!
The Sorel heel height is okay for me. They feel very stable because the heel is chunky. The sole is thick giving the heel a bit more height in look than in reality, but it is still a higher heeled booties. I had no problem walking in them, but I can walk in heels up to 3 inches without difficulty and 3.5 inches sometimes depending on the fit and design. I have to be careful when I am around pot holes, stairs and slopes though! Those are good place to twist ankles!

I realize I never said anything about the BCBG wrap dress! It has very pretty colors. The dress fits well. I am still not sure I love it for me, especially after trying on the Boss sheath. The dress may be fine for casual days, and travel. It's easy to care for. Machine wash, etc.

I am drooling over the Boss pieces. What an amazing array of gorgeous items. Such a lovely colour and the quality of the fabric is apparent even in the pics, which is rare. So glad they worked out. I adore the Lafayette blouse also.

Those look like excellent sweater choices for you also.

Love the Sorel's and I did try them on but I felt they ran 1/2 size big on me. I ended up passing on them because I have another pair of Sorel's with the same heel height that are still in good shape. I hope these are as comfortable for you as mine.

I have no time for pics but I thought I would post some quick reviews of the items that arrived today.

1: The entire Boss ensemble, jacket, skirt, trousers and sheath. Wow! This is beautiful. The color is a mid-tone blue, lighter than a true navy but darker than many blues, making it a very refined and versatile color. The material is lightweight but soft. It easily passes the scrunch test in terms of wrinkles. It is billed as stretch wool, although it really doesn't have much stretch. Every item is impeccably sewn and fully lined. There is plent of hem to let out and or they can be made shorter.

The sheath fit puzzled me. I tried two sizes a 2&4. Both worked but I think I'm going to keep the larger and have a tailor take it in because the waist hit in a better place on my torso. The size 2 fit better overall though so I would say the overall fit may be slightly large.

The jacket fit of the 4 was impeccable and requires no tailoring. I can hear angels singing! This is a first! I like the 6 also because it works well with bulkier sweater, but as soon as I try it with a thin blouse it looks too baggy. Funny that it works like that on me but it does. (I tried a 4&6 in jackets because of sleeve length concerns)

This entire group is a winner and I will probably keep.

2. The Max Mara ensemble, which includes a dress not pictured here is very nice. It's a beautiful substantial knit fabric. Very soft. The dress looks and fits great in my typical Max Mara size 6. The jacket also fits well, but looks much more svelte than on the model and gives me a fairly defined waist. The cropped pants, which are knit, are snug on my legs. The model shows them as loose. I wonder if I should order a size up? If you have muscular legs, which I do, these pants may not be the best option. The Boss trousers were a perfect fit in comparison in size 4.

I'm likely to keep the dress but return the rest. The dress looks good with the Boss blazer.

3. Three sweaters, all very nice. Two turtlenecks, slightly different, but both so great I think I am keeping. The White funnel neck sweater is so stunningly soft and beautiful I want to wear tomorrow but it's going to be 80+ F. I love that it has a banded bottom, the neckline is wonderful, and it is well made. The Vince zip sweater is fun. I love the side zips, which allow whatever interesting top you have underneath to pop through. It's not too wide or bulky either. It's fairly sleek. The Trouve sweater is a nice casual addition for weekends. I like the slits in front which once again will allow some peek-a-boo effect for a shirt layer below.

4. Lafayette NY silk shell. This shirt matches the Boss suit perfectly in case anyone else is considering it. I ordered both the P, and S. Both fit, but I have a slight preference for the smaller size because it is less overwhelming. Wear with a racer back or cross back bra, or use clips on back of regular bra because of the cut in shoulder detail. Bra straps show in back with a regular bra.

The halogen top is fine but I have one like it and it washes and wears well. I'm not likely to keep it because I already have a pink top that I like better.

5. Madewell cotton jacket- I purchased this in my forever quest of trying to find a denim jacket equivalent. I like this version. It fit me well. It has an internal drawstring giving it some shape. The color is grey but it has an olive green wash over it that is very subtle. I like it. It goes with most everything casual and is very neutral. I think it can be used in the same ways a denim jacket would. I ordered my usual size, and it's fit was generous enough to fit a medium sweater underneath.

6.The shoes are all as anticipated in terms of color. The SW's were a tiny bit big. I ordered 1/2 size larger than my usual. I am reordering my usual size for comparison. My heel was slipping. The Donald Pliners are gorgeous looking. Sadly, they are made for a larger volume foot than mine. I ordered my size and a size larger. Both were too roomy. These are going back.

The Paul Green loafers are a perfect fit for my foot. Medium width, narrow heel, wider toe box. The same is true of the Sorrells and the Aquatalias. All three were in my typical size. I may end up keeping all of them. I have variable luck with Aquatalias but these fit well. Narrow ankle was still a bit wide for me but not but not bad when wearing with a sock.

Bcbg wrap is nothing special. It fit well but it's going back. The pattern is very lively and vibrant.

MZ Wallace handbags - the red is too dark. Great quality. Lots of pockets. The zippers are nice. The red bag also is a great size if you want a small bag. i think the leather handles make them heavier than other available lightweight bags. I use these for my workday.

ETA pics of Max Mara ensemble, but you need to scroll down a few posts. Sorry! Technical issues!
