I think we may have individual rules focused on our priorities. For me, my short height, short torso and large bust creates my fit list issues. For example, I like items that come in under my bust and hate items that fall straight (side view) from the fullest part of my bust. Wearing regular sizes often put the chest curvature too low and thus not the best side view. Also, if it is too straight or boxy it looks like I have no waist and adds a visual 20 lbs. These fit preferences are pretty straight forward for me to detect. Knits are easier :), but then I focus on where on the hip/thigh it lands. I lean very heavily on conventional flattering proportions by choice as I feel my best in them. I paired it with super high rise jeans which helps disguise any proportion and fit issues. I can only tell by how something feels, and sometimes by how it looks. The Philip Lim skirt, for example, which is a high waist item fits well, does not feel too tight, and seems to fit the contours of my hips. I have tried 5-6 high waisted skirts and there were all sorts of odd but thankfully obvious fit issues. I have been looking at cars lately, and it made me wish I could test drive my clothes before spending so much money on them. It feels a bit like gambling every time I make a purchase from a new to me brand. The torso is still big on all the jackets I tried. You can see it when I raise my arms to the side in the Halogen jacket. It makes the James Perse jacket puff out in an odd way and I think that might be the problem. When I go down a size in James Perse the waist will fall at the wrong place. I'm not sure if my tailor can fix this. The more I look at the Rag and Bone sweater the more amazed I am at the length of the sleeves. They are long enough that they are over my wrist and pushed up a bit on my arm slightly. This is a size small, and their clothes typically run large, but the sleeves are strangely narrow, so it's a sweater for people with arms like an octopus! LOL! </p> <p>Lisa P.
