I would suggest taking the dress to a tailor and getting an opinion. It may be steamable but looks to me as if might require a relatively straightforward tailoring fix. It is then a matter of deciding whether you want to keep the dress or not. For minor fixes, it is worth it-almost everything I have has needed tailoring, if only to straighten a hem. Fitted dresses like this almost always need something.

I would guess it is bad sewing/patterning lovely dress otherwise though.

This may be too late to help, but if you press it and it doesn't stay in place, it's the sewing. I would return or exchange it, because this dress is all about the superb tailored look, and the details must be right, IMHO.

I have my quality suspicions, Jules. But a quick steam might be worth it.

Its a lovely dress but I see what you mean. I have had this problem before and it has down to how the lining has been sewn. Sometimes pressing it has made a difference, otherwise I have had swap the dress over as it has a legitimate fault.

Thank you Sylvie and Amy.

Amy, I have not tried to steam the item yet. I'm in UK and stores are atill quite particular about returns. I would have to be v.careful with my steam iron.

All I can tell you is that it's difficult not to end up with a little bubble like that when sewing a vent. A couple of layers + sewing on the bias = fabric fighting itself and stretching.

Have you tried steaming it out?

I really can't tell from the photos. Can you post a photo of yourself wearing it - how it looks on you is really all that matters.

That may be the problem Jem, it looks as though I need to smooth out the fabric around the vent yet the dress is quite loose through the hips.

It's hard to see on my monitor. Is the lining pulling weird creating the bubble? BTW, I like that word "shonky".

The dress I ordered from Great Plains arrived and whilst I like the fit and the colour there appears to be a bubble effect at the top of the front vent. Looking at the photos on line this strange bubbling or pulling is evident on the model but to a lesser degree.

Is this a shonky pattern? Shonky sewing? Can it be fixed?

Thank you
