I like that phrase 'mental threshold'. I've reached it with boots, for now. I totally can see reaching a threshold with bras, they're fiddly to get right in the first place, all the benefits come after the hard work is done. Better luck next time around!

Thanks Stringy.

I had a brief session in Bra n Things yesterday. I tried on several 8Bs and found them pretty tight, but of course anything would after not having a new bra for years.
Worrying, and the reason I didn't buy any, was that the underwire didn't seem to be wide enough on the armpit side and was digging into the breast on that side.

The salesperson was very helpful (and I was the only one in the shop) but I had very limited time so didn't try on any more.
She thought I should try 10A which is my normal size, to see if I could get a better fit with the cup width.

I feel like I have reached my mental threshold on this (doesn't take long) so might wait until the next school holidays.

Thanks for all the help!

I have found some 8's in Myer, but it is a bit hit and miss and I never count on seeing them. Try Bras n Things first, I've had some good fittings there too but had forgotten until Megan mentioned them.

Another thing: don't go while there's a sale on. Mad people everywhere when all you want is the full attention of your salesperson and to be able to focus on yourself! Especially if you've got the kids with you, best to go when it's quiet. Early morning maybe?

Thanks Ladies.

Stringy - I was just assuming they did bra fitting! I have a voucher for their so there is a certain appeal in buying from them
but, and to Megan's point, Maya reckons I might be a 30 band which I think translates to an 8 so Bra's and Things might be a better one. There is on near the shopping centre where I am taking the girls tomorrow to see Toy Story, so perhaps could pop in, though shopping with a 7 and 4 year old tagging along isn't ideal

I can't buy bras at Myer- they don't stock anything smaller than a 10. Bras and Things has been better in my opinion- especially their guarantee that if you get fitted and your bra ends up being uncomfortable within 30 days (I think) you can exchange it even after it's been worn. Just make sure you get one of their cards to say that you've been fitted.

I have used the exchange policy without any issues, I had a bra fitted and the fit was fine but the clips on the adjustable straps cut into my skin badly after a couple of hours.

Hi Anne!

I've had two fittings at Myer. One was outstanding I must say! The other.....

The lady fitted me for size and helped me with bra selection. She recommended certain styles over others for me to help give me the necessary support and lift required (I have sadly lost some fullness due to breastfeeding).

The other time, the assistant was rushed, wasn't particularly helpful (ie, you're a 12B, go find some bras and try them - no fitting assistance provided) and to be honest I left less than impressed.

I think if you can go to the store during a quiet time (ie weekday, not during lunch hour/after work) you will be more likely to get devoted attention than if you try to go during a busy time when the already thin on the ground sales staff will be distracted and less likely to be attentive. I'd also make sure I asked the staff for a fit specialist - as sometimes the staff on roster isn't actually trained.

Good luck!

It's been years since I had a bra fitting at Myer. I didn't realise they still offered it as a service, or maybe that's just the stores I go to. Last time I tried one was about 12 years ago, average service, but got the measurements I needed and some good suggestions. Not sure that such an old reference will help, though, sorry.

For the Australians. What are bra fittings at Myer like? Worth it?
