Hi Angie,
Thanks for the feedback. My Boden Cavendish jeans from A/W ‘17 and straightlegs from S/S ‘16, both in 8R, no longer fit around the waist and belly due to continuing post-menopausal weight gain—therefore the 10R purchase this fall. The Edinburgh pair I showed, as well as the Cavendish and Soho skinnies I’m also returning from this order feel good around the waist and stomach, but the thighs and bum *are* too big by a size. TMI, I know! I was hoping the Edinburgh’s might be okay in that slightly oversized “ girlfriend” category, but I guess not. :-)
I may have sized out of the Boden shape and need to start looking for another brand. Shame, because Boden jeans have worked fairly well for me over the last 8 years.
Fashintern, thanks, it’s a Peruvian Connections t-shirt from last year.

Sounds like the place to wear that top is date night. Idk what climate you’re in, but in some places that would be a great transitional top. The main question though is whether you can be comfortable in it. Does it feel to you like it needs to be smaller everywhere, or is it just a question of length, that can be taken care of with a simple hemming?

Btw, I like the pattern of the shirt you have on to try the jeans.

Thanks for showing us these items, Lady Painter.

I want to size you down on the jeans - how do you feel about that? Jeans length is fine with booties or shooties. That's the new look.

The top fits well, although a little long. I like Janet's suggestion of a petite.

Right now, neither the top nor the Jean come in petites. I’ve noticed that Boden sometimes brings out a wider size range (P, R, T) on some items as the season goes on. I avoid petite trousers like the plague—the rise is always, always to short! Petite tops sometimes work if the sleeve length isn’t an issue.
Julie, I know! I always do a deep squat when I try on pants and jeans (like reaching for something on the very bottom shelf at the grocery store), and if I feel a “draft aft”, it’s a no.
Cardiff girl, aww thanks!

I don't like the jeans as much as your jeans that you are wearing with the striped top, so I think they should be returned. The top looks too big, I would prefer to see this in either petite or sized down. It has lovely colours.

I agree that the jeans are an odd length. I love the stripe top on you, but it either needs to be longer or shorter. Longer like, either tunic length, mid thigh. Or shorter.

We'll thanks for posting!! My measurements are very similar to yours, and I've had these jeans in my virtual cart (also in a 10r) for a while. Literally a few minutes before visiting the forum, I did some measurements and decided the back rise was about an inch too short, so I gave up on them. So what you say just made sense! I think they look good on you, but shallow in the rear rise would bother me for sure.

I love the bright colors on you. But I agree the weight on that top is tough. I ended up returning b/c I didn't feel comfortable in it.

Do the Edinburgh jeans come in a petite length? I think that might be better for you.

I'll be facing similar length issues. I just placed an order for jeans and the length is the hardest thing for me to get right. I find I settle more than I should. It is my goal going forward to be ultra picky and not settle any more. Wishing us both luck.

Elle and Sterling—yes, the length was the deal killer on these jeans.
Hadn’t really thought about the length on the top as a prob before the 3 of you mentioned it! :-)
For me it was about the tricksy stripe placement, and the fabric weight compared to the season ahead.

It does not sound as though you are sold on either item. I feel it is important that you love what you wear and I'm not hearing love in your written word.

For the jeans, I think it is the length that make them only so-so. I am tall and finding jeans the right length is challenging, but I would suggest holding out for a pair you love.

I like the top better, but I feel it is too long for you.

I'm not crazy about the jeans - like Janet, I think because of the length. But I'm not an expert on length. I do like the top on you in version #3 - very cheerful colors. But if you don't think you will have a place to wear it, then return and keep looking.

Thanks for all the info about the fabrics.

Thanks, Janet.
No, the top is regular only. I think if one of the dark navy stripes had fallen at my waist instead of just below my bust and just above my hip, it would look more balanced.
Yes, the hem vent was what attracted me to them! They are just short enough that I would need to *think* about what socks to wear when I put them on--not a plus when you're talking about a daily wear jean, as opposed to a dress-up jean, lol!

Is the top available in a petite? I'd like to see it a little shorter on you.

The jeans are that length that I struggle with -- not short enough to seem intentionally cropped nor long enough to be full-length. And with the vent detail (which I really like), alteration is not really the best option. I may not be the right person to chime in on them because of that length thing, but I'm not swooning over them. More importantly, it sounds like you have reservations about them too.

Hi all,
Packing up items for return from a Boden and a Nordstrom order. Still on the fence about these 2 items. Bought the Boden pieces during the Labor Day sale. They arrived Monday, so need to drop them off at the PO today.
I'm in the process of setting up my A/W clothes purge/shop. Unfortunately, this is a year when most of my outdoor kit is worn out, and most of my street clothes are also worn out. I was planning on focusing the street clothes to tops, sweaters, and a few key accessories; however, body fat gains mean that my jeans from last year are a bit squeezy around the middle, so I need to pick up some jeans, too.
# 1-2: These are the Boden Edinburgh jeans. Size 10R. I am 5'4" (and a Half!, as my GP's nurse says at my annual checkups), 138 lb, and 32W 39H, 31" inseam for jeans. I think they fit, but do they flatter? Somehow they just don't look as awesome as the web catalog. They are a comfy "girlfriend" fit, not as long an inseam as I'd prefer. They seem a bit shallow in the rear rise. Nice heavy denim.
#3-4: This is the Boden Sarah Ponte top. Size 10R. I have a 39"B measure--that's a 32G bra, so it's all out front. Again, it fits, but does it flatter? The ottoman fabric is really nice, however it's just snug enough that slipping a layering tee underneath would not work. It's very Laura Petrie, which I like, but the open, stand-up neck kind of highlights my skinny neck in the wrong way (plus means bra straps might be peeking out at any given moment.) DH said, "Keeper!" when he saw it. Not really sure where/when I'd wear it--since going to botanical illo, I can wear much nicer clothes in the studio, but white is still no-go. So it would be nicer errands and outings. The fabric is really nice, but a little too light for a winter sweater, yet too heavy for a t-shirt. #3 is the top back side to the front; #4 is front side to the front--one reviewer mentioned it worked both ways, and lo, it does! ;-)
PS--will add finds once I figure that out, so you can see how the manufacturer thinks they should look.
