I have another very short skirt from the 90s that I’ve never ever worn. It’s part of the JPetermann stash. I am looking for tights (or leggings) to wear it as Rachylou described. I don’t want anything ditzy with it, but think I’d prefer a pattern that’s swirly or confusing enough not to be immediately recognizable as a ______. The rows of buttons on the pockets make me want to wear it with a square-necked top, to reference sailor styles. I have no idea what pattern of tights would go with that.

Good points about relative lengths, LaPed & Sarah! In the end, I kept the green ones and the ones in 5/6. I sure wish I’d been quicker to follow up on Sloper’s suggestions so I’d had time to have them delivered to my parents’ house. I’ll keep my eyes out, and will keep checking to see if/when Jockey adds blue again.

I like #4 best, but the look will require careful outfit matching to look pulled together.

I like the green shorts! Agree with rachylou regarding shorter length leggings. I see leggings under skirts around here. I think it’s a cool look

3/4 work for me colour wise and also in length. These skirts are like the ones I wear as aprons over leggings at the bakery. I do tend to like capri or clam digger lengths re the leggings part of the look - on the longer side so you can see them.

I think for those skirts you need a shorter inseam short. More run/yoga than bike short length. Maybe 3-4” inseam at a guess? Title Nine used to make what they called “undercover shorts” to go underneath their dresses and they were perfect. Stretchy, not bulky, short but didn’t ride up too much. They don’t seem to have them anymore, and they were synthetic anyway… A quick Google brought up these, never heard of this brand but they’re more or less what I picture being useful under shorter skirts: https://asatre.com/shop/hemp-c.....ts-s-xxlg/

Also — college orientation?! Congrats to you and your son! Seems early — when do classes start?

I think I would want shorts to wear under skirts to be either shorter than the skirt (and thus not show unless one is on the monkeybars or w/e), or significantly longer, like maybe capri length. Above-knee skirt + longer but above-kneecap shorts looks rather busy to my eye...

Thanks ST! I’ll amend the original post to clarify that I own these skirts, and am looking for shorts to go under them.

Skirts or shorts? Skirts are good. My vote is for navy shorts #5.

Reaching deep into my closet again, I’ve pulled out a couple skirts from the 90s. I never wore the plaid one, but think I might with some kind of shorts underneath. I did wear the floral one, with Sketcher sneakers, but it’s feeling short these days, so I might want shorts with it too. Need to slip out during orientation at my son’s college & Return most of these today. Do any of them look like keepers to you? Most of them seem too long. I might hang onto the green ones for this other skirt that I don’t have along.
