Thistle, I wear some if my oxfords like a shootie and hem pants to fall over shoe. So that works best with certain pant hem width such slight boot cut ; occasionally a straight.
This is not the original Oxford craze look with rolled or cropped pants but I had trouble , despite loving oxfords for my feet, liking how they look on me with ankle pants. The key for me is to style this pant- shoe look with a more feminine top and jacket style. I can also use sheer knee- highs with some.
This is not everyone's cup of tea but I like it. A slimmer- fitting, slight Bootcut is a good pant style for me( not my only choice, but I try to keep a couple of versions on the go) and I don't always want to wear an ankle boot.
Some of my pairings are " planned serendipity" based on coming across a comfortable but refined Oxford and the right pants.
I think I am very particular about my feet& legs " look" in the final outfit and maybe that limits me. I know it when I see it!
I recently found a pair of PG shooties at Nordstrom Rack that I found work great with cropped pants, where my oxfords and loafers did not,
and so that has revived that whole option for me for fall. Something about the vamp, smooth fit and slight heel is less clunky, but still a good bit of shoe, so they balance my pear shape in slightly tapered ankle pants.

I go by the ankle measurement on flares. Figure out what size flare you like, in inches, and then see if hemming X amount will get you to that size or greater.

Functionally it means I still end up waiting to buy petites, which I hem 0-2".

I think only if the oxford had a heel, would they be good with a cropped flare or bootcut. (Obnoxious oxford pic below.)

As for the hemming, that's so difficult, and I think it depends on how long your own leg is -- would it be better to hem a full flare or a crop flare, buy a petite in either of those, etc.

For trousers with a small flare, some might call them bootcut if one were not hip to the new logo, could you wear them with oxfords as well as booties?

Also, if you have to have all your pants hemmed, how many inches can you take up on a flare before its pointless to buy a flare
