Angie's right! I've started to look for the lightest bags I can find. Hardware can be heavy so even a small bag can be a problem. It is nice that descriptions of bags usually show the weight.

Je ne Sais Pas, I highly recommend lightening the load of your handbag to save your neck, back and shoulders :)

Angie, I am definitely a bag over filler, but trying to reform, both for my future back health and for the bags to last longer.

2 lbs empty looks like a a little bit too much to me too, I think I will keep looking for a lighter bag. Thank you all for your answers!

My latest desire was to have a bag with no shoulder strap--I do not like them, though I realize they are practical.

I finally bought this satchel. Picking it up, I realize it is kind of heavy, but not cumbersome. Just had to get used to carrying it around for a day or two.

Bag weight is very important to me, and I would find 2 lbs empty much too heavy. I want my bags to be 3-4 lbs filled. Like Angie I use cross bodies, and I double bag it, a cross body for purse stuff and a tote/shopper shaped bag for work stuff.

No idea about weight since I’ve never measured that, but absolutely I find shoulder bags (which I would wear crossbody at times) or actual crossbodies much more comfortable than handbags you need to hold by their handles.

I'm not sure about the weight. That depends on how much you add by filling it ;)

I tend to keep my own bags light, and they must convert to crossbodies for city life (and doggies in tow).

I realise there may not be an answer to this because a lot of factors are at play, but generally speaking:

- do you think 870 gram / 1.9 pounds is too heavy for a medium sized (39x26 cm / 15.3 x 10.2 inch) leather bag? This is the weight of the empty bag.

- in your experience, would a shoulder bag be more or less comfortable to carry than a hand bag?

Thank you!
