Tarzy...great answer and I await your take on this someday !!

Shiny, my skin has already started to get super dry. Skin is like fruit : a grape is nice and plump, take away the water and it becomes a raisin. Same with skin - it shrivels.

I have had to experiment A LOT over the last two winters to get something that works - so it could be that particular product doesn't mesh with your particular skin. A serum is also not suppose to hydrate, from what I understand, it is a treatment.

Someone last year suggested that I layer moisturizers. I use Clinique Dramatically different, I wait 5-10mins then add Avon Age reversal Anew daytime moisturizer with SPF. I night, I do the Clinique again and sometimes I use Dove heavy moisturizer or Mama Bee Oil from Burt's Bees. I also either wash with Dove cold cream at night or Burt's bees moisturizing milk facial wash. I also moisturize during the day.....

I change my regimen in the summer.

This works really well for me - you may just have to keep experimenting.

rute, I use Biotherm as well! I discovered it last year on a trip to europe. Only part of the line is available here in the states through their website. You won't find it in any stores here. I noticed a drastic difference in my skin immediately!

well.. I'm 41 ;)
Never use that skin line. I use biotherm skin vivo.
how does dryness affect wrinkles? On dry skin wrinkles appear sooner, I have a mixte skin type and almost no wrinkles, the expert said that on mixte and oily skins they appear later.

Perhaps you are sensitive or even allergic to one of the ingredients? I am allergic to lavender, of all things, and have to be careful about trying new products. One of my saddest moments was sending a brand new bottle of Versace's Blonde--a favorite scent bought in Venice--after doing some testing.

Years ago I attended a fundraiser where Nu-skin kits were given as favors. You know, I don't even remember trying it. "Free" gifts no longer entice me, as I have learned through experience to be extremely cautious about what I put on my skin.

On the other hand, it could be a coincidence. Funny thing about the 40s--all kinds of strange things happen as hormones start to fluctuate. The best approach is to go slow in trying new products and to read labels.

shiny, do any of the containers list active ingredients (particularly the serum)? I'm not familiar with Nu-skin specifically, but the reaction you're describing sounds consistent with that often experienced by people who are using products containing retinol or other vitamin-A derivatives. It's usually a good idea to try to gradually build up a tolerance when using these products by applying them only once a week for a couple of weeks, then twice a week, then up to whatever frequency is recommended or which your skin can tolerate. The climate where you live is also a consideration -- if you live somewhere dry it may never be feasible to use the serum on a daily basis.

Another thing to look at is the ingredients in the cleanser (some of them contain very drying ingredients/detergents, like sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate, etc.). Is it a foaming or a cream cleanser?

(spoken as someone who has spent waaaaay too much time at the dermatologist )

Happy belated birthday, Shiny! I haven't tried serum but have wondered about it. So far it's just moisturizer and an eye cream when I remember it. The amount of water I drink does make a big difference in my skin. Let us know what you decide. I've heard that sometimes a good skin care product can make things worse before they get better but have never had the patience to wait it out.

Happy belated birthday! No, there is no age-skin switch (although I do believe there is an age-attitude switch and it is somewhere between 45-50 . . . !!!!)

Anyway, I'm not familiar with Nu-skin, but I have heard that serum is lighter than a typical moisturizer - to be absorbed into the skin immediately. A number of skin care lines have you use serum AND put moisturizer over it.

If you have used it for a whole month and see no improvement (and even see regression) I think you have given it a fair chance (an enitre hormone cycle and your skin does not like it!

I would go back to something that my skin enjoyed.

Thanks - this is what's wrong then. I always associate dryness with flaking, and I have no flaking. And breaking out a bit = oil, not dryness. But yes, my skin feels really dry and too tight, like it's going to crack or something.

I will try once a week with the serum... or just go back to the Lancome, which is ultra rich and hydrating.

Phew!!! I'm so glad this is an easy fix...

dryness makes wrinkles more apparent and deeper. When you skin is well hydrated it is at its plumpest and the plumping of cells with moisture can minimize the look of fine lines. Even young women can have wrinkles when they are extremely dehydrated--- which is one of the many reasons that people look more haggard after a night of hard drinking, which is very dehydrating.

Shiny, I've never used Nu-skin, but I can say that it sounds like using everything every day may be too much for your skin.

The (alleged) extra wrinkles may be due to the dryness...god knows if I am underhydrated or skip moisturizer for a few days it shows.

Maybe lay off the serum? Try no serum, then 1/wk, then work your way up to 3/wk if you aren't having adverse reactions.

For my 45th birthday last month my hubby bought me Nu-skin - the whole kit, cleanser, day and night moisturizer, and serum. I've been using the system for a month and I'm wondering if anyone else has used this?

I have never used a serum so this might be the issue. All I can say is that my skin looks worse. It feels dry. I have break-outs (minor, I can deal with them if my skin is improving). But the biggest concern is I seem to have MORE wrinkles - not less???

Or it could be my age... some flip that switched because I'm now 45... LOL...

Experiences?

(I may just go back to the Lancome moisturizer I was using... and give the rest of this to hubby).
