I don't spend a lot of time with my bag most days it's just there to carry all my stuff, I like nice bags but can't be bothered with switching them out x

Yes, I've never a locker for my bag when I'm at the hospital. I think only nurses get lockers. So I have to carry my bag with me the whole day when I'm at the hospital and hope I don't forget it in some patient's room!

Interesting responses! Lyn, I sort of can't believe doctors don't have a locker or some sort of cubby for their bag! Learn something new everyday ;)
I am wondering if those who's bags are not with them very much are less likely to see it as an integral part of the outfit? Or maybe you just love bags or you don't! Kinda like shoes :)
Louise, I definitely don't carry my bag around bartending lol. Likewise, I only have it shopping or like you, slung over a chair. So, yes, I change to an evening bag once or twice a month maybe for a night out but otherwise keep the same one going for a few months, heck sometimes years!

My bag spends all day in the cupboard when I'm at work except when I go on my break, when it sits on the chair next to me. So apart from weekends or evenings out and about I don't see a lot of my bag and even then it's only on me if shopping, if out for a meal it's on the back of my chair. I'm going for a routine the same as you Mo and doing a bag a season then changing out for evenings or a cross body bag if I need to be hands free x

Oooh, high five Lyn, my Dr. Fossil twin!

Mo, I see bags as an essential part of my outfit, just like shoes or jewelry. I always think about and try to pick the bag that goes best with my outfit. Unlike Anna, I almost always am holding the bag in my WIW shots. I carry my bag with me to work, when I walk to the hospital to get lunch, etc. So I don't have it on me at the office but I still think it's important to have a complete outfit. That said, my plainer bags often get more use because my outfits are so patterned and complex. For example, I have a Kate Spade Japanese Floral print bag that I rarely pull out because it's tricky to mix with my other clothes. On the other hand, one of my most used bags is a Fossil floral satchel that is patterned, but has so many of my fall colors that it usually matches with what I'm wearing. I just think it's fun to match your bag to your outfit!

Mo in some ways I do feel a bag can make or break an outfit. I change bags daily and I see them as an integral part of my outfit. My outfit needs to look "complete" without it but the wrong bag can ruin a good outfit IMHO.

I always have my bag with me, and I have *alot* of bags. As I live in a tropical climate I don't get to wear jackets, long pants, boots and all the juicy stuff most of the ladies on the forum get to wear, so I find accessories essential to my look. Plus, oh heck, I just love 'em

Hey Mo!!! I wear my bag all the time during the day at work (because I dont' really have one place to put everything down), especially when I'm all over the hospital.

:| One of my patients forgot my name so they tracked me down by "the lady doctor with the fabulous brown cross body Fossil bag" ... LOL.

Anna, I think you may have a similar mindset as I - it's a nice touch, but not an outfit maker, per se?
And, yes, I see tons of gorgeous bags here, I just can't seem to make myself hop from one to another like shoes!

Funny thing is I have a nice collection of bags, many designer. But I rarely post my WIW's with the bag. I use my Chloe crossbody and Givenchy Nightingale the most in the winter.

I think a bag can add or detract from an outfit. I have a tendency towards really practical, mumsy bags, which can add to the frump factor if I'm not careful. There is such a thing as boring and too practical (though I'm not talking about a cool utilitarian messenger-type bag--they have a style all their own).

Anyway! To answer your question, I have my bag with me every time I leave the house, (unless I'm working out). I wear it on my shoulder or place it in my shopping cart. If I'm out for coffee it's in my lap. When I volunteer I have to put it in a cabinet, but other than that it's like a baby or a pet, it doesn't leave my side. Actually I'm at home right now, and it's right beside me on the table, lol!

Ditto to Zap. I sometimes go a lazy route and keep using a bag for a few days if it goes with the outfits I'm wearing, but I almost always take a look at my bag collection after I get dressed to see whether I should change bags. I like a variety of bags for adding a little extra dimension to outfits, even if it's a day when I think my bag won't be seen much. After all, there are days my entire outfit is barely seen outside of a smattering of people!

Yes, my bag is with me during lunch time and as I commute back and forth. I do select my bag and accessories to complement my outfit, irrelevant on whether I have them on at all times.

I agree Isabel that it can 'add' to an outfit, but a comment last week on a thread about not being able to assess someone's outfit without a bag, I found odd. Surely a bag can add to things, but is your outfit incomplete without it if you added the bag with certain intents on it completing your outfit? maybe I'm overthinking it. Or maybe some ladies' bags never leave their clutches??

When I am out, my bag is pretty much with me at all times. I never look at it though as part of an outfit but rather a supplement. So it adds to the outfit if I am holding it but doesn't detract from the outfit if I am not. Does that make sense. MaryK is fabulous at this concept.

Great question Mo!
Outside of work - the bag is an important element of my outfit. Even if I'm in the car - eventually, I'll be out of the car - and walking around with my bag. I have several bags in various colours and textures, and I love them all. I do favour a cross body bag - I feel a large bag is just overwhelming on me - and too heavy.
For work - you're right, the bag sits in a drawer. However, I still change it up a bt depending on the coat I'm wearing, and the purpose the bag needs to serve.

Since I am not, though I've tried, a handbag kind of gal - I am wondering for those of you who are: what percentage of time would you say you have your handbag on/with you to complete your outfit over an average day?
And if it's your pop of color or pattern mix or textural interest, but in the car, or the desk drawer, or the shopping cart basket, how does that affect your overall outfit?

Signed, still sporting one bag a season
