I am very much like Velvetychocolate. I tend to over wash all of my garments, regardless of fabric. Reading this post, I might try to go a little longer between wearings.

I don't have any of the brands you mentioned, Una, but I do have a few silk shirts and tops that I actually don't wear on a regular basis --- special-occasion use for clumsy me (I'm too good at the rip, tear and splash activities).

However, unless it's a hot and active day (which would be in the emergency category, as I wouldn't knowingly wear silk in that case!), I just air them out and wash or dry clean at the end of the season. I usually hand-wash with shampoo or soft soap, but dry-clean the slubbier silks to maintain the texture. If I *do* get sweaty though, I'll wash asap --- silk sets perspiration as well as other stains much worse than other natural fibres, in my experience.

Cottons, on the other hand, get Nicole's sniff test and still get worn a couple of times if they're wovens or 'lightly worn' (read: day of being couch potato or sedentary desk hand) knits.

(And yes, they absolutely ought to hire you, Nicole --- as should lots of people directly or tangentially invested in the apparel and accessories business!)

I do multiple times. I take it off and hang it up the minute I get home from work so it doesn't get dirty or sweaty.

I do, however, wash my bras and undies each and every time I wear them.

I'm one of those terrible people who wants to wash everything after being worn only once. That said - I have one silk shirt that's kind of a pain, so I'll wear it two or three times before Dryel-ing it. I make sure I hang it up, air it out (as Aida was saying) ...it's good for two or three wears. Then Dryel.

For silk and other dry-clean type items, I tend to hand-wash/rinse the pit area after each wear to avoid sweat stains. I can go a loooonnngg time without a whole-shirt cleaning that way

A lot, unless it's a hot day. Similar to my no-iron technique, my strategy is to hang my shirt in the bathroom while I'm showering, and the steam/moisture kind of freshens it.

I have a j.jill from a couple of years ago. I've washed after each wearing - but I wash everything after each wearing. (Yes, I wash my clothes to death.) Problem is I haven't worn it very often because I have trouble getting the wrinkles out. I'm hoping my new iron will solve that problem.

Somehow I can never manage to wear my tops more than once but I usually just wash and air-dry my JJill shirts, rather than dry-clean.

Oh good, I didn't want to chime in earlier and admit that it's a LOT. I have 4 silk blend tops I bought a year ago and I've washed 2 of them so far. I have had to spot clean the Nexx blouses so I may try handwashing one of them soon.

I'm like the both of you - the most activity my work clothes see is a short walk to the car, then a couplbe of blocks woth of walking to the office, then back the other way. I figure it takes many outings to add up to a "full day's worth" of wear.

I tend to have a lot of time between wears, and the closet airing out seems to be enough to keep from being grubby. Of course mine is essentially worn to work from home sooooo it's not like it sees much action I tend to wait pretty long to wash most of my clothing, though I know many people do not.

Oh, good - I feel better! I've worn my orange one 4 times and since it's only to the office and back, it's not feeling grubby yet. Just making sure I wasn't being icky.

Yeah... I Dryeled my orange one once after wearing about 4 times. But I would have gone longer if I hadn't worn it to an MRI and gotten hospital germs on it. I guess I let it go until it doesn't feel fresh anymore.

I generally wait until they have a spot that needs to be cleaned. I find that a good hanging and airing out goes a really long way. I probably get away with 5-10 wearings before they start to show it depending on how careful I am.
