Steph, if being a vegetarian is the only thing holding you back from CrossFit, then it is a non-issue. Join today! It will be the best thing you have done for yourself....EVER.

At my box, many people eat Paleo or paleo-ish (some people make lifestyle allowances for sanity and health), but others eat whatever, whenever (they usually just don't discuss).

And a ten minute CrossFit workout can be more brutal than doing cardio for an hour. Snaps to everything Sarah said!

Wow, thanks for bumping this Kate!

FWIW, we do have some vegetarians at our box. I don't know how they manage, though. You aren't forced to eat Paleo at Crossfit, but it is encouraged. I have noticed better results having switched to Paleo, but it isn't for everyone. I know you could do the work and be a vegetarian.

Isis, not every workout is 10 minutes. Mine was last night, though. I did 21 squat cleans, 21 ring dips, 15 squat cleans, 15 ring dips, 9 squat cleans, 9 ring dips in 10:09. Tonight's workout is just 15 deadlifts, but with heavy, heavy weight so it won't take much time.

Kate, it is expensive. I wish it wasn't, but it is. For me though, it's a #1 priority so it's pretty much all I do outside of bills, groceries, and gas money. I've taken a serious cut in shopping. My husband and I go six days a week, but we could cut back which will decrease the cost. Crossfit is a lifestyle for us, so it's been worth every penny.

Well, fortunately it's only closed this particular coming Saturday. So my plan is to check out bootcamp this Saturday and Crossfit next Saturday. So within a week and a half or so I should know whether I want to do boot camp or Crossfit or re-up for more personal training sessions at 24 Hour Fitness. (Right now I am very beguiled by boot camp because it's right down the street from my house and is less than half the cost of what I've been paying for personal training.)

Our only Crossfit gym has closed here too. I'm thinking it's based on High Intensity Interval Training method, and I do some of that already.

I am just coming in to say that I am heartbroken beyond belief because I was planning to check out Crossfit this Saturday and our local Crossfit gym is CLOSED this Saturday! Boo-hoo!

So I'll be checking out a local "indoor bootcamp" instead...

I'm agreeing with Kate, it is pretty pricey around here too. A year of classes is $1,400 not including the membership/training fee. Ouch!

bumping. I know Sarah's not the only crossfitter around here, so hopefully they can all enlighten us! I actually spent some time yesterday looking up local crossfit gyms, and they look awesome but pretty expensive for our very modest income...

Sarah, while you are at it, I had another question. You mentioned that you do a 10 minute workout? I'm curious about how to fit in a workout in only 10 minutes! Thx!

I don't know anything about crossfit, so I'll leave that to Sarah. I do know that according to a friend who is on it- the Paleo Diet that you're referring to excludes all grains/beans/legumes, tofu/seitan products, and dairy. It's basically meats, eggs, nuts and seasonal veggies/fruit. I think it would be very difficult for a vegetarian to follow.

Sarah, I saw your mention of Crossfit in the thread about gym alternatives, and I was hoping you could answer a question for me. I have been interested in Crossfit for awhile now, but whenever I read anything about it I read that in addition to the exercising, adherents follow an "eat like a Caveman" mentality with a focus on lots of veggies and lean proteins. I don't have a problem with that at all, but from everything I read it does seem that eating like a caveman also includes eating meat. I'm a vegetarian and am not going to change that--would I be able to follow a Crossfit regimen or would being a vegetarian make it too difficult for me? Thanks!
