Unrelated to Blundstones, but I donated these boots after two wears because they were too hard to get on and off.

Two friends tried them and had the same issue - which is probably why they were sold second hand cheaply!! It was just so offputting, and I wondered who they would fit as I have quite an average foot - not high volume, not low volume.

I went to a store today and tried Blundstones myself. I need a pair of casual boots for gym/evening walks. I considered them as well as some other brands.
The higher shaft one was easy to put on but so difficult to get off! The original one, with a regular shaft was ok. But I found them to be too wide in a toe box. So, also a no from me..
i went to Ecco and tried a pair there. They didn’t have my bigger size, I ordered online. But they feel OK. Fingers crossed they fit.

Good luck to you, Lisa. I think there are some options in the $180-280 price range.

Also v sad about this Aquatalia demise.

I’ve never tried blundstones, but occasionally was tempted to… I think I’ll give them a pass after all the above.

I have a hard time wearing any boot that doesn't have a helper zipper. I've always thought it was because I have a wider foot and higher arch. If I have to have the boots, I use a shoe horn to help my foot in.

Only marginally related: you should have heard the theatrical NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I let loose with when I read that Aquatalia was no more. I loved that brand so much.

Suz - both pairs of La C’s are great ! Lucky you for finding them on sale . I just will not spend $500 on a pair of boots . The whole Blundstone on-off issue is turning me off . I’m over it .

Those Artica boots look more your style if they are comfortable for the schlep on public transit

I have a pair of la canadienne. I loved the fit and support when they fit tighter around the ankle and lower leg. With loosening, my foot slips around . I notice the lack of support and a tiredness in my foot and leg after a few hours. I might need to add insoles.

Something to bear in mind with non zippered or laced boots

I have a love/hate relationship with them. The fit is always a bit off for me (Australian sizing is different and I seem to be between sizes in most of their styles). But they are so durable. I typically buy them in the larger of my two sizes and use an insole (or two) to make the fit better. My feet are normal width in front, narrow heel, fairly high instep. I find them a nightmare to get on for the first few wears, and then they wear in -- elastic eases -- and that part is great, thereafter. I do use the pull on them. And also have to pry them off.

My current pair are mostly for garden work and rugged walks only -- not a fashion boot.

I bought La Canadienne boots in the summer at half price. Still super expensive but worth it for me since they are the best fitting boots I've ever had. Their lasts just work for me.

I've been wearing that exact model for ~8 years and don't find them difficult to get on/off. Perhaps the elastic loosens? I honestly don't recall having a problem when they were new, and they broke in much faster for me than, say, Frye harness boots or Doc Martens (even well broken-in, neither of those is all-day comfortable for me the way Blunnies are). The pull tabs are very helpful; I have another pair of chelsea boots without a pull tab and always feel annoyed getting those on and off!

I have wider feet and a high instep, and purchased a half size for extra width and volume. I also replaced the stock insole with wool felt, for increased warmth and a better fit (I keep sheets of it around in different thicknesses to dial in the volume on boots).

Well I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who couldn’t make them work . I found a beautiful pair by Artica at Brown’s that I think I’ll buy . I prefer as high a shaft as I can find which is why these Blundstones held such appeal , but I’m not willing to struggle with them in the hope that they will loosen up .

Angie , La Canadienne has lovely footwear but they are not in a price range I’m comfortable with .

Kate- I actually have the Taos crave boot you’re talking about and rarely wear them . Maybe they need a second look ….hmm . I can’t really explain why I don’t wear them much - maybe the laces and buckles are too much detail .

A while ago I ordered these and could not get them on, either! I assumed the problem was the conversion between sizes (UK versus US). Anyway, I bought some Born Chelsea boots that I really like.

Same experience as Kate and Angie. I wanted to love them, but they were a ‘mare to put on, and I had to use moleskin ‘cause the top of the shaft rubbed the spot below my calf! Wanted to love them, but couldn’t get them to work! They were heavy too! Donated :-(

I’m a big fan of MWWH/Denver Hayes leather boots, and they have a Chelsea style that is a Bludstone dupe at a good price point. I’m already super happy with my combat booties (see finds) so figure the last would
work for my fussy feet - and they are light weight! They are called the Ainsley Quad Comfort (see pic) and come in black and brown, regular and wide. Dependable treads, too.

The Timberland Chevalier is surprisingly ‘refined’ looking for the same style, and might be worth a try.

Angie, Blondos don't fit my feet, either.

LJP, a couple of brands you might want to look at are Remonte (German), a sister brand to Rieker; and Fluchos (Spanish). I've never tried any Fluchos boots, so no experience to share, but they are gorgeous. I do have Remonte waterproof leather zipper up sneakers and they're great. Remonte had a lot of good looking boots on its site.

I'll put in a plug for the Taos Crave boot. I've had mine for many years, and while I wouldn't call them elevated, it's a super comfortable fit for my fussy feet. They've been going to Iceland with me for at least the last seven or eight winters, braved ice, snow and rain, never faltered, and kept my feet warm and dry. So there's that.

Good luck!

Ha! This is surprising. I have a pair of Blundstones very similar to the ones you show (I also prefer the more tapered toe on these) and I find them super comfortable. Well mine were second hand, but it very good condition - maybe they were more broken in? I believe they are the larger of my sizes too.

My Blundstones are over 20 years old. They are a smooth leather on the outside and fully lined smooth leather on the inside. Like Kellygirl, I depend on the pull tab but because of the smooth inside, my foot slips in. My low volume narrow feet are happy in them after all of these years. I did play around with the insole and replaced them with a smooth leather too.

Didn't even try blundstones because so many people had the exact same experience you described. I got Sorel Chelsea boots that have a similar rugged but streamlined look and they have been my most comfortable books 3 years running (I wear them on daily 5k walks.)

They loosen up with wear but I still use the pull tabs to put them on. My feet are on the wide side, narrow heels, normal instep. I wear mine at least 4 days a week with thick socks--they're so comfortable. I just looked at my feet and was actually surprised I didn't have them on today--wearing my Ecco 7 for a change!

My Blundstone experience is like Kate's! Personally, I find them uncomfortable boots. Kate and I have similar feet. Narrow, low volume, long toes - maybe that's why? (Others find them really comfy, so there you go!)

LJP, you might find Ariat a better weatherproof bet. I'd suggest Aquatalia - but the company has gone bust. Blondo and La Canadienne weatherproof boots are good options too. In my experience, Blondo has yet to fit my feet - but LC fits well.

Not much help from me, sorry to say, only commiseration.

I imagine you can find a similar look in other brands. My experience with Blundstones was much like yours, even though our feet are quite different. They were the most hellishly uncomfortable booties I've ever had on my feet, and I've avoided the brand ever since. And I'm no stranger to shoe discomfort with my long, narrow, low volume feet.

I take public transport home from work a few days a week now, and in getting better prepared for winter, I decided to try some Blundstones after seeing them on a woman in Sephora whose style I admired . I like these in the find below (but in plain black leather ) because of the white topstitching and the higher shaft. They look a little more "elevated" (there's that word again) than the plain oiled leather ones which is the attraction. So I went to try them on today and was horrified by how utterly difficult they were to get on. I tried two sizes and the larger size was only marginally less strenuous to pull on. Is this normal ?? I was wearing a thick sock as I figured that's how I'd be wearing them. For context, I have a very average foot, neither wide nor narrow, and with a very average arch . Almost all shoes and boots fit me with zero trouble. How are you all managing this?
