I had similar problems with my silver high-top Eccos. Right shoe, just behind and below my ankle bone. I used a large bandaid to protect the area. But, low and behold, the rubbing has disappeared and they are now very comfortable sans bandaid. This took about 10 wears.

I was going to suggest Bandaids, but Moleskin is better. I'm sure they'll stretch.

Suz, I'm sorry about the Ecco. It's a good brand for narrow feet, so it's a downer that it should do this.

Firecracker, I just realized I own those Mephisto in silver metallic! They never gave me any trouble though.

As Sterling says, I, too, put moleskin on the skin.

I just had the same problem with my new Eccos today. I often wear one of those blister preventing bandaids -- and should have done so today but because I had socks on, I thought I would be okay. No such luck. However, in the past I have found that this type of thing does "break in."

Thanks Firecracker, very helpful. Do you use moleskin on the shoe or on your foot? Inserts sound like the answer. And yes, I agree about the irony of it. I wasn't expecting to experience problems of the sorts with such a comfy shoe either, it's a surprise.

I've had similar problems with sneakers, and in the past they have broken in. My Mephistos were uncomfortable at the back at first, and I wore them with Superfeet inserts for at least the first several wears, which raised my heel enough to avoid the problem. Now I can wear them without the inserts, even without socks, and they are fine. My new Ecco sneakers rubbed my heels the first time I wore them, so I'm using moleskin with them. I may try the inserts with them, too--that might do the trick. I'm optimistic they will break in with wear, so that I can go without the "aids" eventually. It's funny--I rarely have this trouble with other shoes. You'd think sneakers wouldn't need to be broken in.

Hi! I got a pair of Rockport Raelyn blue knit sneakers - fell in love. I wore them for a little while for the first time (inside my home) and realized that while this is an extraordinarily comfortable shoe, it also digs in the back of my ankle!

I wasn't bothered at all when I tried them in the store and when I tried them on a few times with outfits at home. Only after wearing them for more than 30 minutes did I start feeling the pain on my achille tendons, right at the back of my ankle, as I walk especially.

I tried to look it up and I see some people say that shoes will stretch and it will go away. Should I believe it? Or should I return them?
