Thanks Deborah, that's exactly what I have in mind - buy only if I can return. my friend has naturally curly hair, which I can't believe as I've always seen her with the straight one and she says it's all down to using one of those hair dryers.

Hi Ornella, I have only just seen this post :) I have tried a couple of these types of appliances and I find they just don't suit my hair. I am much better with a hairdryer and nice firm round brush. I have not yet found an appliance that grips and pulls my hair firm enought to smooth and straighten it (I have naturally curly hair). I would recommend you only purchase something that you can return if you find it doesn't perform to your liking.

Hi Ornella. It was a few years ago, that I bought one for my DD, Babyliss, but it didn't work for us cuz the rotation movement caught and pulled her hair in between it's rotational parts...such a pain:-(. Maybe nowadays they don't do that, just sayin' to be aware, and try it by yourself first.

Well, I think ceramic helps the hair to slide more easily around the barrel and to distribute heat better. I think Ionic means you get rid of static. I believe an Ionic one also helps hair to dry quicker by sending out negative ions which make your hair release water quicker and so requires less heat anyway as it takes less time to dry. I may be tempted by the ionic one myself.

My friend swears by hers and I'm considering buying one for myself.

Here is the catch: at the store they had ceramic and ionic. I can't remember which one was more expensive, which I guess should be a clue that it's newer and better model, but I'd like to know how to decide what to get?

Thanks for your help.
