What a wonderful idea! I absolutely love #1 on you and think you will get a lot of wear from it, the brown plaid, and the leather. The others are also okay but maybe not as easily worked in. No harm in keeping and trying them, though, right? Might as well.

I am so glad you have these lovely reminders of your mother.

I guess I should just say ditto ditto ditto...so nice to be able to have some of your Mom's things as a remembrance, yet wear them your own way. I too have a collection of blazers (more in dark solids, no plaid) that I could try wearing in a more edgy way....some good ideas here..

Thanks Janet! My brother took a couple of my mom's things just for sentimental reasons, too... mostly things she wore and jewelry she bought while on trips with him. I have some jewelry I'll likely never wear, too, but it's nice to have some things that work seamlessly into my style!

#1 is a big winner! Both plaids are great, and I like the others too. The only one I'm not wild about is the boxy one in #4. I have a few things of my mom's, but I don't wear them -- just packed away for sentimental value. It's great that you can wear these!

Thanks, smittie. It made me smile when I saw a list of "spending priorities" in my mom's notebook. Beyond bills, one of the items in her top three was "items that enhance and develop my personal style."

texstyle - I love that her tastes ran so close to mine in so many ways!

Ledonna - Yup, I'm going to try that! I donated a lot of her clothing to an organization she worked with that helps women just out of prison, so I have no qualms at all about letting anything that doesn't work for me go on to a new life.

Thanks, Angie. That's my favorite too!

Beth Ann and Dee and Brooklyn - It is such a cool thing to have you ladies, who have a sense of my style and can see how various items might fit in. Thank you!

Firecracker - It's so interesting that so many of you have pointed this out with #4. It's the one I came closest to leaving behind, and then decided at the last moment to throw in the suitcase, just to play with.

Wise, Joy. Thank you!

Alaskagirl, there's just something about a red plaid, isn't there? I suspect I'll be wearing that one a lot come next autumn.

Jane, what a cool idea to have your dad's jacket altered!

Sterling - Apparently, my mom was so known for her blazers that her office held a "blazer day" to remember her after she passed away. That made me laugh.

Mochi - You're right. The quality is great! Both plaid ones are wool and fully lined.

Thank you so much, Diane and Maneera.

RobinF - I find your comment totally fascinating, and I wonder if your initial reaction might have been because you're less familiar with my style than some others? It looks like you joined only a week or so before I went radio silent for a bit. It really makes you think about how we see clothing in the abstract, on a model or mannequin, versus what we think of certain pieces on a specific individual whose style we know. I wear a lot of plaid, so it's quite possible that others saw that and it made sense to them in context!

How nice to have these and remember your mom every time you wear them! Funny, my first thought was the plainer ones but so many positive comments about the plaids made me go back and I can see it now. Or maybe I am easily swayed...

This is a lovely idea Jenn. I particularly like the velvet jacket and the plaid on you. Echoing what others have said, I am not sure about no 4. I think it is a little boxy and conservative for your style. But there may be something you can do with it. The leather jacket is awesome.

It's amazing that she had one you came close to buying for yourself! The only one I question is #4--it doesn't look immediately like "you" to me.
I think the purple one has potential, I love velvet.

The grey I am not sure about. I find the colour and shape not as inspiring. But have a play around and see what you think. If you are creative you could do things like swap buttons, add trims (I like rick-rack edgings on blazers) or maybe even get darts put in it.

And of course keep the black leather, definitely sentimental since your Mum looked so fab in it.

That's the same jacket.

Lisa - It's funny to be trying on my mom's clothes. Makes me feel a bit like I'm in high school again. :)

Liz - It might just be the way I'm standing. #1-5 are all the same size from the same manufacturer. #4 is probably the one I'm least comfortable in. I almost left it behind, but I did like the nice neutral color, and figured I could try some tricks like rolling/scrunching the sleeves (like in #1) and pairing with some bold, updated jewelry and shoes.

What a great way to wear these! I love the red plaid. The bookishness of the second one seems a good match for you, but it looks a tad big - is that just the way you're standing, or are the shoulders really too broad for you? #4 gives me the most pause -- the squared off front bottom, large sleeves, and high stance seem to make it harder to wear in an updated way.

This is such a nice story ! To have something of your mom's that you can wear - I can only imagine. The first two plaid jackets are out of this world - you must wear them both .

I think it is a really great idea to pair some of these more classic Talbot's pieces with your graphic tees and jeans. It is a fabulous juxtaposition. (I especially love the bold red plaid jacket on you.) Extra special that these pieces belonged to your mom. Perhaps you may now qualify as "Princess Blazer". Is that her "badass" leather jacket in #6? Fantastic! I can see why that would make you smile.

(Sorry, this isn't really Urgent. Once again, I posted from the app and forgot to change the default.)

After cleaning out my mom's closet, I have no doubt Angie would have dubbed her "Queen Blazer" because she had quite the collection. They all fit me, and I brought several home. These aren't sentimental items (they're mostly more recent Talbots pieces) but I think they're jackets I can work into my own style. My mom would have worn these with blouses and trousers or skirts. I'll wear them with graphic tees and jeans.

I tried them all on, just with what I happened to have on today. What do you think? With some styling tweaks, will they all work?

#1-2 - I actually wore this one for real today. I like the red plaid a lot, and showed you a side view, just so you can see those angled pockets Angie posted about recently.

#3 - Brown plaid blazer with elbow patches! I seriously tried this on a while back when it was in the store and decided against it because it was too pricey for how much I thought I might wear it. Always regretted it a little as one that got away.

#4 - This one is a subtle gray and black check, a little boxier than the others.

#5 - Purple velvet.

#6 - My mom's black leather jacket. I'll be keeping this one, even if I don't wear it, because it makes me smile.
