Can I differ? Sometimes the look and feel of something very well made can make it worth the extra money. I'm totally tactile-y based in my purchases and the hand feel of a premium item can make all the difference in me wearing it. (Maybe not $400 worth of difference...)

But... if this piece will *become* a signature workhorse piece - and I don't know if it will, but I have known women in NYC who could definitely rock a piece like this to death, layering it over and under, wearing with jeans, over dresses, etc. - then I'd say the pleasure of a luxe item *might* be worth it. I can see this being a piece you hand down to daughters, nieces, lend out... But it's only worth the money if you will either actually wear it to death, or if it gives you a glow to wear it on those special occasions when you pull it out. I have items like that - the ones I can't wait to wear. I may not wear them a lot, but when I do, man, they are worth every dime.

(Why did I give away my faux fur? Maybe I didn't... I need to rummage in my mother's basement...)

Angie is right. You won't get $595 of worth of wear out of the coat. Also, faux fur is warm, so probably as useful.

Must say the two styles of coat are very different. The spendy one is super super hip, practically too hip, which decreases it's wearability. So I'd consider that too. ('Course, it's the look I'd go for personally ;>)

I agree with Angie! This is a trend, so you don't need to spend a lot of money here because next year will probably be out!

How about a vest? I feel like the long fur jackets look fluffy and have a potential to make you look bigger than you are. Also, didn't we just hear about a faux leopard coat from last year that you aren't wearing much? Can you pull that one out? It seems like it would fit the same wardrobe niche as a transition season faux fur coat.

Anna- you have a great 'rockability' ( is this even a word?) style. My advice with a garment such as this is you could easily carry out either with panache. The question is which will lay better/drape better on your body. for that I think you would have to try both items.

I vote the cheaper piece because this is not going to be a wardrobe workhorse. In fact, you should also check out the options at Express at the moment. Solid faux fur looks fine cheap

The quality piece:

http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/167073

Pros: probably warmer, richer looking.
Cons: expensive, expensive to clean.

The impulsive piece:

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/mi.....tback=4302

Pros: Cheap.
Cons: probably not as warm, looks cheaper.

Opinions? (Yes I'm still on SYC. Just debating what if anything should be purchased for fall.)
