Not quite the same as what you're looking at, but if it helps I have a Theory cotton drape sweater cardigan that is going on 3 years, has gone on pretty much every business trip -- winter summer spring fall -- , plus I wear it casually all the time... and it's still looking just fine, no pills or fading. I've not babied it at all -- in fact, I've treated it rather harshly. But it just won't die! Love it and CPW is down to pennies by now.

On flip side at same time I bought that cardigan I also bought a pair of Theory ponte knit pants. They are much better made fit and stretch and comfort compared to similar low-end pants I get from LOFT. But they pilled within the first year, between the thighs. Still wearable but annoying, and I tend to leave them on the hanger because I hate pills. Meanwhile the LOFT pants at a fraction of the cost only start pilling on me two seasons in, and on the hip where my coat or handbag rubs, not between the thighs. So weird.

At the end of the day I'm convinced it's all a crap-shoot!

I bought a knit merino sweater from Theory that was an absolute workhorse due to its amazing drape, lack of pilling and great cut. Sadly it was inadvertently thrown in the laundry and then the dryer (gasp!) and was never the same :(

But from my experience - it was great quality vs. my usual J. Crew tippis.

They used to be good quality, but I can't say anymore. I know the quality and fit of their basic pants has gone downhill and there have been many complaints about that. It's been several years since I bought a knit top from Theory.

I have a two year old lightweight Theory jacket that so far is holding up and looks now.

Months ago, I identified a need for knitted staples in my wardrobe because the length and material of my current tops don't mesh with the humidity or my lower-rise bottoms. I don't have many tops--fewer than 10 are in circulation--but I am very particular about what I want.

Specifically, I'm seeking all of these characteristics:
*Thin material with some stretch
*Boatneck/ballerina neckline in the front, ballerina in the back
*Short to elbow-length sleeves

Years ago, I had purchased an elbow-length sleeved ballerina top from J. Crew, but the fabric was too thick, and the cotton stretched out too easily. I noticed that Theory has a few tops that seem exactly what I'm looking for, but at $150 a pop, I'm expecting it to come with a free pair of trousers.

So, my question: do Theory knits hold up well to the wears and tears of daily life? Will they pill or retain sweat easily?

If you know of any tops that match the description above exactly, please share.
