Still smiling/laughing here. It'd be a good time weather-wise though.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions about the summer humidity. Step MIL insisted that the humidity is not bad, but coming from the California desert, I think that it would kill us. Since she's already informed us that we get them for Thanksgiving every year, I guess we will shoot for a spring trip.

I'm in Dallas but just visited Houston in late October.

The visitors guide said winter & spring were the best times to visit.

I went to Houston on a business trip in late June once - and I don't recommend June! Walking from hotel to rental car at 6:30 am, and my glasses fogged up by the time I got the car, and my blouse was sticking to me. Hair went all funny-looking too (I have straight hair, but ended up with curly fly-aways). It was so hot and humid that walking to a restaurant just down the street wasn't a good idea - better to take the air-conditioned rental car. I've never had my glasses steam up so much like that. It was kind of funny actually. My husband and I had a few laughs over this. "Can you see yet?" and stuff like that.

A couple of years later, my husband and I went for a fun weekend getaway to Austin in March - and it was *lovely*. Not too hot, and not too cold. It wasn't 'summer-y', but more like trench coat or light jacket weather. We had so much fun. Walked all over the place and the weather was just about perfect for sight-seeing and enjoying ourselves. I'm not a fan of overly hot weather, so that might colour my perceptions a bit. For me, anything over about 70F is 'too hot'.

So I guess it also depends on what kind of weather you like and are used to, as this will help determine which times of the year are going to be comfortable for being out and about, enjoying the sights and so on.

I've lived in Houston for 5 years and spring is my favorite season. The new growth on the trees is so pretty and the wild flowers can be spectacular. Fall is nice also. Definitely not summer. There are a lot of things to do in Houston depending on your interests, but if you don't mind the 3 hour drive to San Antonio, the Riverwalk is great and especially pretty in spring. If you like history, the Alamo is a must see.

I agree with Sarah--not summer! Maybe in the late Autumn would be nice.

I'm not a Houstonite, but my husband was born and raised there. We still go back and visit his grandparents.
My biggest complaint about Houston is that it's HUMID. So avoid the summer if at all possible. Spring and fall aren't too bad. There is a lot of stuff to do in Houston, so I'd go when the weather is right and then find things to do after that.
We are just a hop, skip, and a jump away here in Austin. And San Antionio is right between. You could visit the famous Riverwalk, and even the Alamo if you wish.

My new step MIL lives near Houston, and she *really* wants us to come visit. Weather and activity-wise what would be the best time of year for a trip?
