My experience has been like most others here. No nearby location so I have browsed a few stores when on vacation in Europe and done a little bit of online shopping. To me, they are very much basic heavy rather than style or maybe that is just what draws my attention. I am fine with that, although I haven't purchased a lot. My favorite purchase is a long lightweight down coat that I have had for many years. it is just right for between seasons and warmer winter days.

I will venture forward with caution on opening weekend, LOL! We have a local collab with Annapolis artist Kim Hovell - she has a large local presence in the home decor boutiques here. Cute style with lots of blue crabs and nautical motifs — not my style but nice for locals and tourists. If they’d do one in Baltimore, it would likely be a little more my vibe, but that’s likely to be pretty heavy on the crab theme too, LOL.

I always enjoy browsing in Uniqlo, we have the big flagship store downtown but there's also a smaller one at my local mall.

I find it a great place for the basics; Uniqlo U tees, heattech underwear and socks, merino sweaters, sweatpants, built- in bra tank tops, Airism UPF hoodies and I have purchased some of their denim too. Quality for the most part is decent for the price point. Some items can skew a bit cropped and boxy and many are unisex. Colours available tend to change each season.

I find that the staff constantly greets me with "bonjour" even if I just saw them in the other aisles.

I also like how you can just drop your basket of items into the self checkout area and it automatically totals everything instantly. No individual scanning required.

No Uniqlo here but I have been in Manhattan and Copenhagen and have shopped on-line. I have no idea what their stock pattern is. Since their products are generic (in a good way!) I find it fairly easy to shop on-line for things like tees and socks.

Without a store in my city, I have had a tough time learning how to shop at Uniglo. I did buy some linen shirts many years ago on a NYC trip. I think it can be excellent for essentials if the colours (or neutrals) work for you and also good for the collabs if you get in on time for those -- which is hard when you don't have a store nearby. The heat-tech stuff is great. The puffers are good, too, again, if you can get a good fit/ colour. If I had a store in my city I would probably make an effort to get to know it better.

We don't have Uniqlo here but I have shopped there in Australia several times and also in Singapore. I did purchase two items last weekend - a sweater in the JW Anderson collab (orange collared sweater) and an airism white tee. I tried on several sweaters and most were nice - and the pricing was fair. The colours were mostly not what I wanted as they were too cool and muted. I found the styles kind of a tomboy/minimal vibe which I appreciate but is not always quite my style.

My 24 year old son loves their clothes for workwear - quality and price are excellent. Both my sons are lucky for clothes fits as they are tall, slim with broad shoulders (I am jealous obviously).

kkards - yes, the price vs quality is excellent - from what I could tell. The items were pretty basic though - with the exception of a few pieces that were almost too avant gard for my preferred look . Or for someone as middle aged-white-lady-slightly-overweight as I , lol. I can see it as a resource for t-shirts, shorts, linen pants etc - but one can get those anywhere . I suppose this is where the price comes into play. Maybe it will replace what I currently buy from Gap, ON , etc.

Janet- if you want to maintain your sanity and self-respect, don't go on opening day , LOL. What they did do which I was impressed with, was create a little shop-within-shop of pieces with Winnipeg -specific themes/screening on t-shirts etc.

Irina - I did pick up on the "different environment " vibe right away. I was however, a little surprised not to be greeted at all - as in "good morning" or even just a smile and nod. But maybe that's their cultural difference in customer service? I saw a few of those CB pieces in the store (but didn't know they were part of a collab as they were mixed in with other merchandise. Cute, but not for me. Very sweet and youthful.

I pick up their free magazine - Lifewear, and study the mannequins in the store. I was interested in the colab with Ines de La Fresange they did a while back, and my new linen shirt is from the Clare Waight Gellar colab.

Below are my current Uniqlo holdings. I’ll probably get a new puffer at Uniqlo this fall, and would repeat the joggers in another colour.

I only purchase in person, after trying things on. Their online returns process is conveluted.

Last collab was with Cecilie Bahnsen. I went to try but it wasn’t for me. I’m not a frequent enough shoppers to know about new mech drops. I either go for a specific item or check online first. I took me a while to figure out how to shop there. If I’m interested in something online, I take a picture and go to a store. Sales people are always very helpful but you need to ask. This is a different environment, they don’t offer assistance unless asked. I actually prefer this way.

Interesting!

A new Uniqlo is opening this weekend at the mall near me — a pleasant surprise, since otherwise the mall has become less and less appealing (I cruise through occasionally, as the closest public library is there). I’m thinking of stopping in on opening day, out of curiosity.

So far the biggest, nicest Uniqlo I’ve been in was in Madrid. I bought two tops and would have possibly bought more, but I was on the way to start the Camino and didn’t want to stuff my luggage fuller than it already was. The stores I’ve visited have been well organized and stocked, but I’m sure a grand opening can make things a bit hectic.

The Banana Republic store in the A mall in my city closed 2 weeks ago, we now have no BR’s in the city—hard to believe. I’m hoping. Crossing my fingers that a Uniqlo will take the space. Rumor has it that other stores in that section of the mall were moving or also closing so the space would be large enough

Lisa I think with careful and thoughtful consideration you’ll find that Uniqlo has a lot to offer that fits your style/fashion plan. imo they offer a great value quality proposition, with fashion forward but not over the top pieces.

Thank you , Angie. I did notice how tidy and carefully displayed the merch was - and appreciate that part. There was a LOT of staff around, but not a single one acknowledged me. I am now invisible . There was also a noticeable lack of the most popular sizes - which I attribute to the recent opening which must have purged their stock . Most of the women's pieces I saw were in XXS and XXL.

Here's my 2 cents.

We have two HUGE Uniqlos in Seattle that are flawlessly neat and organized. Merchandise meticulously folded and displayed to the top of high ceilings! Impressive. Two thirds of the store is women's wear, one quarter mens, and the rest is everything else - including kids, babies, stuff, and collabs. And everyone shops in all the departments! Gender and age is fluid with respect to merchandise. Staff are helpful, friendly, and constantly neatening the store - opposite to Zara, where staff are generally unhelpful, unfriendly, and disinterested in keeping things neat ;)

Assortments change every month or so, but not a lot. Big assortment changes every two to three months.

Winnipeg's first Uniqlo store opened a couple of weeks ago, and it's apparently safe for a normal person to go in now , haha. I happened to be in the mall doing a return (story of my life) the day it opened and the line up was CRAZY. All the way around the upper floor of the mall. Do people not have jobs to go to? Or anything better to do? Yikes.

Anyways, I toured the store yesterday and while nothing really jumped out at me, I'm curious how the merchandise flows. Are new styles added within a season, or is it one big drop a few times a year? In other words, do I need to go back again this summer?

The store was far bigger than I imagined, and I didn't really understand the merchandising or what I was looking at - is it men's, women's or a general free for all? It was all kind of together . I'm probably not their target market, but there was a cropped boxy shirt in an interested tech fabric I liked, but I wasn't motivated enough to go stand in line. There were no collab pieces visible, other than a couple of pieces of the Uniqlo:C collection .
