I do not wear a bra to bed, mostly because I sleep on my side and bras of almost any sort tend to shift such that I fall out of them anyway. I have, however, considered wearing a stretchy bra with a spacer/pad between the breasts to help keep chest lines at bay. A little too much sun in my youth combined with side sleeping has caused some lines to show up in the morning and I don't want them to become permanent.

Pushing toward 70 and so far...knock wood...the girls have not succumbed to gravity. I've never worn a bra to bed. In fact, in some of the 60's-70's I didn't wear a bra at all when not teaching. Exercise and being active probably helps more than a bra. I am quite small at a 30D

When my kids were younger and I frequently feel asleep in my clothes I did wear a bra quite a bit. Also while breastfeeding. But I don't know about the rationale for such things!

I am well endowed such that few stores actually carry my size. I do not wear a bra to bed.

Even when I was larger yet when I was nursing, I did not wear a bra to bed. But then, the girls were tender during that whole time and would have rather been completely free all the time. And it made nighttime nursing much easier.

I had been told as a teen by other girls that I was supposed to wear one to bed to keep them from sagging and drooping. I did through those years and in college, and it was a huge relief to finally shed them at night when I got my first apartment. Never. Looked. Back!

I would not want to sleep in my regular bra, but there are sleep bras that are actually quite comfortable. Mine are by Wacoal, and I like them also when wearing your PJs a bit longer on weekend mornings. They seem to give just a bit of support and cover.

I tend to sleep in a low-impact type sports bra, mostly since I have a small home, 1 shared bathroom, and a soon to be 12 year old son. I just feel more appropriate and don't feel the need to get instantly dressed in the morning.

Well, for me personally I can tell you that when I accidentally fall asleep in my street clothes with my bra on, it tends to shift around and the underwires end up in the wrong place and dig into my flesh. Maybe this is because I am a fidgety sleeper and generally sleep curled up in weird positions that the bra is not meant to contort into. (I can't fall asleep flat on my back at all.)

But I'm only a C cup.

In the summer I wear strappy tops with a stretchy support panel and this winter I've started wearing a stretchy crop top under my pj tops. I don't have particularly pert boobage and I'm not keen on the aesthetics of my chest unsupported under a top x

I have slept in a lightweight bra when around other people - for instance when I was in charge of 30 undergrads for 6 weeks (field camp), and I didn't want it to be an issue if I was needed in the middle of the night, or seen during one of my zillion bathroom breaks at night. Otherwise, the G/H cup boobs of wrath are unsupported at night.

There was a fad around here for a bit, with some babydoll nighties with underwire bra type tops. I bought a couple in some desperation when I needed sleepwear. I like underwire daywear bras, but these nighties are not my most-liked. I think that regular exercise is more apt to protect and preserve the chest than any supportive garment. Although I wouldn't go running without a sports bra, at the same time I don't think that breasts are supposed to be constantly kept in place. I agree that being able to change OUT of my bra at the end of the day is a good feeling, and I wouldn't think that would be so if it were bad for me. And I think the argument about lymph glands and our bodily systems in general is worth considering.

I don't think the soft bra types of wear probably cause the kinds of issues that more structured types do, for nightwear, though.

I am petite so I probably don't count. I only slept in a bra when I was pregnant and nursing. It was more comfortable. Now, of course, no way, but my chest (as MuShu in Mulan would say ).., is travel size for my convenience! ;-). I would think the right thing would be to do what's most comfortable.

From what I have read, it's not the healthiest thing to sleep in a bra, because your lymph--a lot of which is in breast tissue--needs to circulate. Allowing your breasts to move around helps the lymph carry out the toxins.

Everything I've read seems to suggesting that sleeping in a bra doesn't do anything either way in terms of health (although sleeping with an underwire may actually be bad for you). And the jury is still out in terms of sagging - it's just a question of your comfort, as you suggest.

http://www.oprah.com/blogs/Sle.....t-Worth-It

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/.....84551.html

That said, they do make soft-cup sleep bras. I don't sleep in any sort of bra, although I do notice that it's harder to get comfortable at night during those few days of the month that everything is a smidge more sensitive.

I'm curious to follow the discussion!

When I was pregnant, and more endowed, I found sleeping in a non-underwire, stretchy bra more comfortable than going braless. I don't sleep in one anymore, but I think the right bra could be comfortable.

I think my MENTAL health would suffer if I slept in a bra. There is nothing I love more than taking off my bra at the end of the day. I can't imagine sleeping in it. That said, I do "lounge" in my GAP racerback pullover "bra". But at my size (32D), that hardly constitutes a bra.

Hi Fabbers!

I'm not sure what topic this should go in, so I'll tag it as dressing, though it may technically be off-topic.

In one of the links in the earlier bra discussion, a well-endowed blogger mentioned that she sleeps in a bra. Which made me wonder: is there a compelling reason to sleep in a bra or other supportive garment? Is there a compelling reason not to? Is breast health or gravity at stake, or is it simply a matter of comfort?

For the record, I'm on the well-endowed side of the spectrum, and I generally sleep in pyjamas, with no supportive garment. I learned this habit from my mom, and her arguments were comfort and air circulation. I'm not necessarily looking for a poll on undergarment choices (though that would be interesting), mostly wondering if there's good reason for one or the other.
