My jeans are never out of my sight, spring and fall are denim season - I am currently wearing the heck out of them, especially my BF's and loose rolled up skinnies - but I also wear them all winter with tights underneath. I can't wear them in the summer and that plagues me, but thankfully I love all my breezy summer-friendly dresses too!

Jeans are year-round for me! Of course, on really hot days I'll be wearing shorts (denim or otherwise), but summers are typically moderate in the Bay Area

no jeans past 75 degrees for me!! - way too warm for my internal furnace. I switch to navy poplin ankle/BF, linen crops or SHORTS - our summer temps can be as brutal as the winter with stretches in the 90's.

I 'put up' most the jeans and cords when I went home to Tahoe late March. Left all but 3 pair behind. I have my white skinnies, TR BF's, and red moto skinnies here with me. That's it.
I also wear flat shoes mostly in summer.

Aida, I used to wear pumps with jeans fairly often, and you're right, they provide the same kind of visual weight that boots do, just because of the height. But I don't wear them with jeans much anymore, at least during the day, because I just felt too conspicuous - it's a very rare look in my little corner of the world and feels a little too fashion victim from the big city.

Eliza, LL Bean used to offer 'summer weight denim' in their catalog. - don't know if they still do, but I never tried it myself. Of course, they're based in Maine so I don't know how hot the summers they're talking about are! Duluth Trading also has a similar weight in their women's jeans. But cotton pants or skirts are so much cooler than any weight of denim that I've always stuck with them. If I had a physically active job where jeans were really useful or did a lot of gardening or yard work, where you want long pants but you want them to be cool - I might do more searching on this angle.

Kelly, I keep on trying to find a pair of bf jeans that work for me for this very reason; something that would work for medium warm days when rolled up and belted, but so far no luck. I'm starting to think that boyfriend jeans plus my figure type equals no way Jose.

I don't put my jeans away, though in the hot, humid days the weight of denim precludes wearing them, especially if it is dark indigo. I do try have a lighter weight pair of "summer" jeans available, but have varying luck finding them.

I pretty much live in 100% cotton denim BF's during the summer. They are loose enough to be comfortable and offer some protection from the sun. I reserve skinnies for fall and winter because I need boots on the bottom to balance my shoulders. I don't think I ever wear skinnies during the summer. (Your reasoning makes sense though.) I would wear flares/bootcuts though. They have built in balancing!

Good point about the footwear. I think if the denim is lighter weight and the lighter washed, then the less substantial shoes will work well. I wear mine with refined pumps and the occasional strappy sandal; since mine are primarily warm weather they almost never get worn with heavy footwear like boots! As you said, if it's truly hot denim isn't a good choice, anyway

I wondered about that, Aida - in a way skinnies don't seem very summer appropriate because you don't get air circulation, but with flares or boot cuts you might. I think for me it comes down to shoes - I think boot cuts and flares don't look that great with the flat sandals and ballet flats I tend to wear in the summer; they need a shoe with a bit more visual weight to them, like boots or booties or sneakers. But skinnies or straight legs are ok with less substantial shoes. Maybe I'm weird.

In any case, in the really hot days I won't be in any kind of denim (ok, maybe a jean skirt), unless it's a very unusual day that finds me in a/c.

(Sung to the tune of Bringing In the Sheaves...) Some of you still stuck in the polar vortex will hate me for this, but it's gotten quite hot here with summer temps all of a sudden. And my week has been a little discomfiting on a personal level, so a little bit of soothing wardrobe curation sounded like just the ticket today. I pulled out the stored summer tops and shorts to go in the laundry, and reorganized the hanging clothes, putting the heavier stuff further back. I also decided to put up all my bootcut and flared jeans for the season, keeping out the straight legs and skinnies, and planning to supplement with cropped pants and of course shorts. I'm not sure how this will work but I'm going to experiment, as when it's hot here I tend to reach for skirts or shorts and don't wear a lot of denim.

Does anyone else put away their jeans for summer?
