Not sure where you are, but I would recommend contacting your credit card and contesting the charge because of the ring’s poor quality.

Such a cute kitty corner! I would love to relax and read a book there. I have had quality issues with purchased items, but not recently, although if there is a shortage of workers or company cutbacks, quality control is usually the area that suffers.

Lee, it’s maddening, isn’t it? The ring sounds particularly frustrating! There is just no excuse, especially for such an expensive item!

I feel like I’ve chosen a good time to seriously scale back my shopping. I had to kill an hour at the mall yesterday waiting for my Apple Store appointment, and I’ve never been so underwhelmed. The one thing I saw that appealed to me even a little — a lightweight mint green sweater with a pretty cable detail and a V neck — felt plastic-y and cheap to the touch. Yuck. Even shopping for home decor items lately has revealed a lot of subpar quality — mirrors with plastic faux wood frames, throw pillows with bad seams that are already coming apart into the store… I couldn’t help but think last night walking through a sad-looking Macys that the golden era of fabulous retail is well and truly long behind us.

I’m wishing you smooth sailing on the home repairs, having just been through so much of that myself. There were hiccups along the way, but good responsive contractors make all the difference.

Kitty corner is so cute!

I am SO with you on quality issues and it is definitely a deterrent to me for shopping for new items (I buy most of my clothes at consignment stores). I’ve almost given up on knitwear because of pilling. And it’s certainly not an issue isolated to clothing. Nothing seems built to last anymore. We have a throwaway society.

Even brands that used to *mean* quality (Brooks Brothers, for one) can't be fully trusted anymore, nor can the fact that something was expensive.

Wow the incident with the ring is shocking to me. I think you should insist on a refund. Is there a consumer protection organisation you can go to otherwise? I shop 2nd hand because even used clothing is far superior quality. The older stuff of course. I was just saying to my DH yesterday that all the clothes I have bought new in recent years are already 'finished', fortunately not too many, while the older stuff is still going strong. It is a thing.

I generally shop Macy's quality clothes, so issues like immediate pilling don't bother me. That ring would bother the hell out of me, because it's too expensive to have quality issues.

I've had a pair of CK jeans I got a year and a half ago, and certainly didn't wear them everyday. But regularly. And the ripped down the crotch the other day. There may be quality issues everywhere, like you said.

Angie,
thank you for the tea (cake) and sympathy! And about the jeans/oxfords. I like the polka dots on the jeans. :)
I’m glad you like the Kitty Corner!

Jaime, yes, lol. I have battled the abdomen for so long. It’s time to accept and love it and stop worrying about total concealment! I’m here for the self acceptance! I really need to focus on some vintage knits.
Yes!!! I mentioned the price point exactly because you would think they would care if you’re spending that much. Alas, not so much.

JAileen,
Definitely on the review! The sweaters were not salvageable by depilling. It was the type where you not only get the pills but end up with the fuzzy haze on the entire thing. Ugh. Pilling!!!

Runcarla, yes. Pills are the devil’s work! Ha.

Slim Cat, thanks about Kitty corner. Those anti theft tags are so frustrating but equally so, was them sending a belt that was unraveling!
I do feel bad for the overworked but it’s frustrating to have so many issues.

Glad you like Kitty Corner, Suz!
Yes! It’s so insanely frustrating about rhe variety of issues.
And I should have mentioned that they will not accept returns on the ring. With that policy you should very well make sure someone is getting a quality product. It’s so disappointing and every time I look at the ring, all i see is the damaged stone and then fear more accent stones falling out.
And it was a big anniversary.
Argh. Thank you for that commiseration!

So we are all united in the frustration of pilling knits!

I should add that on the 1st I ordered a product off amazon paid $79. It arrived the 3rd and I saw they were now selling it for $38. Unhappy, and irritated after all these other issues, I contacted them. No help. I initiated a return and within half hour dropped it at Khol’s. The website said 2-4 hrs after drop off, I’d be credited, today is the 6th now. Still no refund. So between caring for my Dad, being sick myself several weeks and these experiences, you can insert a frazzled face!
:)
We’re about to have chimney and subfloor repairs. I only hope and pray they’re not another source of aggravation! Fingers and toes crossed.

Your kitty corner is adorable!

As for the quality control issues -- that is extremely frustrating and it definitely sounds as if you have had more than your fair share of them in a short period of time. What makes it even more aggravating is that this is such a range of problems.

With the ring -- at that price, I would absolutely expect better. I think you should get your money back! (If possible).

Knitwear is in general pretty dreadful for the pilling these days. I'm strangely lucky with some items and I do tend to hold onto those even if they aren't quite an "of the moment" style because I recognize I might not get so lucky next time!

I hope you are able to get some satisfaction on these issues!

Love kitty corner - adorable!
The security tag/ the censor situation is unfortunate. I have seen things returned with huge censors attached ( from distribution center ). Some of that happens because of too many tasks put on limited resources ( overworked people namely ). The businesses are trying to cut some spending and quality of service is suffering.

It’s one thing to receive poor quality. But it’s quite another thing to receive something that you can’t even use. I’d be so mad. I hope you write an online review.

Everyone tells me these problems are due to short staffing. Maybe that’s true, but when you return books to the library, you really do expect someone will check them in. And yet, I’ve had two instances just this year where books returned by me were put back on the shelves without being checked in.

Re pills: I have a rechargeable depiller. It works very well. Most of my sweaters take a minute or two to clean up. I did have one that started pilling if I got near it, so I donated it.

Also love kitty corner! And the embrace of the abdomen - I hear you! As for quality control issues, they are appalling. I am especially shocked about the ring, I guess because I expect better service at that price point at least. I know I am a broken record but the only sweaters I own that don't pill are vintage. They were made better and if they get to the thrift store in good shape they are hardy.

The Kitty Corner is very cute and cosy, Lee!! That will make you smile, recharge, think of your sweet beloved cat, and process thoughts. I'm sending tea and cake over to sooth your ENORMOUS shopping frustration.

Oh. My. Word. Don't get me started on piling knitwear. Worst quality problem of them all :(

As for below par service (and quality), it can be shocking! Like the story with your garnet. I'm so sorry :(

I've had theft tags attached to items that I've bought in stores. Very annoying when you have to go back to have them taken off.

I have recently had a few bad experiences. Last Autumn I purchased two sweaters that were completely pilled in 2 hours. Even areas without friction.
I purchased an Aimee Kestenberg anniversary bag at around $300 (not inconsequential pricing but disappointing quality) and after light usage, the seaming was unraveling.
There were other smaller issues with purchases but move forward to this year … my anniversary ring (gift- purchased at Tippy Taste) arrived with a garnet that had scratches and a big inclusion (inclusions aren’t that common in red garnets) and after simply trying it on once, an accent diamond was gone. We sent it back and they used a garnet with a noticeable chip on a facet. They didn’t carefully choose another one or they use subpar stones and couldn’t choose a better one. The ring was roughly $1600 and currently that’s a lot for us with other expenses, so we are frustrated. They offered to put yet another garnet in but that starts to affect the integrity of the setting and there were problems with that from the get go.
I ordered a belt from Anthropologie and it was fulfilled by a store. The belt not only arrived with threads/seams popping everywhere but an anti theft tag attached. I have hardly ever returned anything but they wouldn’t send a new one or refund until receiving that one and offered no apology.
It’s all a definite deterrent for shopping atm. Am I unlucky or is this just more and more common?
Anyone else put off of shopping in general or regarding certain places or categories because of poor quality, quality control or service?
Bonus … I just turned a small spare room into a Kitty Corner. I wanted a lighthearted spot to read and be quirky. And to kinda pay homage to my beloved and missed black American short hair, Miss Kitty.
And embracing the abdomen! Instead of steadfastly covering the pooch, I let it be seen and survived, haha.
Liberating, for me.

This is the ring … how it should look.

Posting from phone, please overlook typos or grammatical issues, ty!
