We've had many a discussion about this here - and the opinions are a mixed bag. Some of us don't care, and others do. Mixing it up is a good way to get past that - i.e. wearing both gold and silver and accommodating both in your bag and belt (if you wear one). Personally, if I'm mixing it up, it's absolutely intentional and I pay attention to which piece has which metal. Most of the time, I take care to wear silver with silver and gold with gold.

I want my watch, bracelets, necklace and earrings to match. My wedding rings are gold and I never even think about the hardware on a bag.

Agree with Brooklyn. Zippers don't bother me but with any prominent hardware -- I want it to go with my jewelry.

I don't really wear metallic shoes but I do think about this issue with jewellery. I would probably match (or not mix) if the hardware on the bag is quite prominent. For example a large gold buckle. For this bag I have in finds, I only wear gold toned jewellery because the gold on the bag is such a feature. But I wouldn't bother matching the hardware if the hardware on the bag was not that prominent eg a zip, small fastener or small shoulder strap rings. For shoes I think it is less of an issue because shoes are located a long way from your bag. But rings and bangles sit quite close to your bag (especially if it's a clutch).

I would like it to match but it usually doesn't. I have a lot of vintage Coach bags, and back in the day all they used was brass hardware. I have kind of switched to silver because of my silver hair, but I don't want to discard these bags just because of thr hardware. Lots of people mix jewelry metals anyway. My watch is stainless and gold. My wedding ring is gold.

This issue drives me crazy. I posted something similar about jewelry corresponding to purse hardware. Some people seem to mix it up without a second thought but I can't seem to get over wanting all metals to be the same. Silver jewelry--then I have to have silver purse hardware and would prefer a silver shoe or silver shoe hardware. I keep thinking that I need something to bridge the different metals--like a two toned watch. I see other people mix metallics and it looks great but I personally seem to have a psychological barrier. I should mention that I have recently bought a purse with gold hardware and am having difficulty incorporating it since all my jewelry is silver. It makes make feel a lack of cohesion, although clearly not everyone feels this way.

I am indulging my love of metallics this summer, but don't like it when I am wearing too many. So I am considering purchasing a purse in a color to use rather than my pewter one. My question is about the hardware on the purse. If you are wearing a silver shoe or belt would you want the hardware on your purse to match or would it be ok to have gold hardware with a silver shoe?

Is this the kind of detail that is overthinking it or is it the kind of detail that makes a big difference in how pulled together you look?
