It is indeed a puffer onesie! Ostensibly for camping. It fills me with such glee! If it’s late enough at night, I think I’ll totally wear it for the last dog walk/constitutional : D

Great collection! I live a couple hours south of you in New Hampshire, and spend several weekends each winter in Montreal to visit my sister-in-law and niece. I have three *winter* puffers (like Irina, I also have a selection of lighter weight puffers for spring/fall -- roughly 0°C and above).

The navy one from Patagonia is looking a bit tired after 6 seasons of heavy use (cuffs are getting that shiny look, and there's some stubborn overall dinginess that isn't responding to my usual end-of-season down wash routine) and the Lole, purchased mid-season last year, is slowly taking its place. It feels a bit more current to me, with its straighter, less tailored cut. The short brown one from REI gets lots of use because it is the most packable and is the one I use if I plan to do any hiking (it has underarm vents!). It's a great all-purpose parka if I am active, but not quite enough if it's very cold and I'm stationary (looking at you, recess duty!).

I have two wool coats, but even with layers they cannot compete with down in terms of warmth, so they are more transitional and less true winter wear, although they do come out for rare dressy events as well.

Excellent selection! I especially love the navy one ... so clean and polished!

I am a winter minimalist! I have exactly one warm puffer - a taupe one from Aritzia similar to Irina's (mine's slightly shorter I think) and one wool coat, which I layer over a lightweight fitted jacket. One pair of black winter boots, and then I have a couple of pairs of Blondos for a more polished vibe (but I only ever wear the black ones if I'm honest). My brown Chelsea boots are lined so I guess they are sort of wintery, but they wouldn't do in snow I don't think ... more late fall maybe.

I love your lug sole Chelsea boots and think I need something like these!

Zaeobi - Yep no need for puffers in HK but I agree those puffer vests are a great layer to wear in spring and fall here too.
Stag It’s hard to believe that wool coat is from when you were in grade 8, still looks great and is standing the test of time.
Stylefan You have a nice assortment of puffers too. I’ve never tried a calf length puffer, looks great for staying real warm.
Jaime I am surprised that you have a puffer, but those light weight ones are great on those windy, rainy days.
Roberta Love the orange lining in the French Connection jacket, yes to zipper pockets too. I’m surprised that Chicago is having such a mild winter so far.
Suz That white Helly Hansen is such a great addition, you have a fab collection to choose from. Yep, the climate in B.C. certainly does require a different assortment of coats compared to Ontario winters.

Zaoebi, sympathetic laughter! This was my Florida “winter coat”. I could wear it for the morning school run a couple months a year, maybe. By 9am, it was too warm.

Your selection & rationale would work for me back in the UK but here (in HK) I've finally had to succumb to 'transitional' toppers for deep winter wear...

This autumn, I bought my first sleeveless puffer! I never understood the purpose of them before (if your core is cold, then aren't your arms too?) but they finally make sense in my currently 10C winter. I do wear mine with gloves, just because my fingers get cold.

I finally took my heavier coats back home - I do miss them, but they were just taking up closet space here. So now I make do in HK with: a lightweight raincoat, rain poncho, sleeveless puffer, cropped bomber, leather jacket, 4 blazers & 2 hooded dickies. Plus 2 ankle booties & 1 kneehigh pair of boots.

If things get really cold though, I just add merino & silk underpinnings (tops, tanks, leggings - maybe a scarf & poncho?) I may be out of practice when it comes to dressing for a 'real' (i.e. not subtropical) winter, lol...

Love the colors, shine, and attitudes! You’re facing winter with intention.
My current collection is in my recent post—a reversible navy/green padded vest, a knee-length wool coat (from 8th grade) and my new green boiled wool cropped jacket. By the time the rest get here, it will be almost spring.

You look beautifully put together in all of your puffers. Love the colors! You would be shocked to know that I often wear puffers given the extremely mild winter here. But on the occasional rainy, windy day I like to feel warm.

I love seeing ALL the coats! The one I wear most of the time is the French Connection jacket below. I love the orange lining and the pockets zip up. The longer, heavier CK down coat is for hardcore winter, which we haven't really had in Chicago this year. I remember winters when I wore an ankle-length down coat every day for weeks.

The green parka is fun for walking outside in the cold - a bit longer and a bit warmer than the ivory jacket.

And the navy Kristen Blake is good in chilly, rainy weather. I wore it today. I just wish it weren't so very dark. Imagine it in orange! *sigh*

Well, as a woman of a certain age, I LOVE your plum and eggplant puffers! The plum is a gorgeous, happy colour. I like it with the scarf. I also like your blue puffer coat. It's lovely on you.

And, as others have said, puffers are required in Canada. Even on the mild west coast.

My heaviest puffer dates from my days living in Ontario. But it still gets a few wears each year out here! I've been tracking wears lately and since the first of December I have worn it 6 times.

My most worn puffer is a lightweight but long packable from Aritzia. I wear this on my daily walks and pretty much everywhere. It's had 25 wears since the start of December.

I also have a lightweight packable jacket that I've just had repaired. It's had 2 wears only but that is partly because it needed a new zipper.

My white Helly Hansen softshell gets a lot of wear -- it has light insulation and is rainproof. It is a very casual coat, obviously, so I use it for walks and bike rides more than fashion. It has had 21 wears since the start of December.

I also own a collection of wool and leather coats that -- alas -- do not see much wear any more. I love beautiful coats, have a real weakness for them -- but because of my suburban location combined with our rainy weather here, I find I don't reach for these as often. Nevertheless, I am still determined to get a long (midi) length wool coat one of these days!

KILLER puffers, which you've styled with fabulous classic verve! Nicely done. The scarves add an interesting touch. I like your sense of polish, Dee :)

#1 is a sublime colour on you! You need boots that colour.

I wear my dressy wool coats most of the time (first 10 FINDS). I have very warm ones! With thinsulate that is warmer than some of my puffers! I wrap up with thermals, hats, scarves and gloves too. Effective.

I also have three puffers that I adore (last 3 FINDS). The navy from Canada is for arctic weather and does not come out much. The other two puffers are a better match for Seattle weather.

I LOVE my citron puffer for super casual and outdoorsy trips. It makes me very happy :)

I have raincoats too. Lightweight, and not shown here.

Kkards, Vildy - Haha, I used to have a black puffer but now as I’ve gotten older, I seem to enjoy a little more colour to brighter up those winter days.
Suntiger That burgundy furry coat looks so fun and luscious
nemosmom Love the aviator style jacket and yes isn’t weird how we have to roast indoors in winter and freeze from A/C in summer.
Runcarla Love the burgundy puffer of course, and glad to hear your getting great wear from your fab Mango coat.
cat2 Sounds like a great collection to survive your winters.
Nadya Great turquoise puffer jacket, such a unique colour.
Irinia Yep puffers are a must for most places in Canada.

So many pretty puffers! Our weather of cold and snow has been long puffers only. I should have gotten a teddy but rotate between a long dark navy puffer and a long white one. My short puffers are still too cold.
Scarves are needed on my bare neck (from wearing my hair up). I don't go out without hat, gloves and boots, either. Their warmth is needed.

Fellow Cdn here. I don't love puffers but as Irina noted, they are a reality for our winters. I have 3 knee length and one hip length - 3 of the 4 are black, one is olive green . One knee length black coat is much lighter weight and I throw it on to go to work on mild days. I prefer an unfitted /straight cut with baffle quilting and no trim of any sort. I only wear the shorter one for outdoor activities/walks etc ...it's showing it's age so not good for "public" outings, lol. Interesting - I don't really consider them my winter uniform....

Our deep winter is wet and chilly but not wicked cold. I pretty much alternate between this slate green raincoat if it’s pouring and this puffer, which is my new favorite because it’s so toasty warm and the color makes me happy. I also have a black hip length packable puffer but it has the logo of a place I used to work so it feels like gear and mostly just gets used that way.

When it warms up to the 50s I need to remember to swap my yellow coat into the rotation.

I am with you on needing variety. At the cabin, I have a forest green Calvin Klein for fall, a silvery taupe Calvin Klein for spring and a chocolate brown Moose Knuckles for true winter when it’s icy cold or blizzardy. And an asymmetrical glossy black Lands End puffer at home to get me to the cabin and back. It sounds like a lot, but I bought one a year on sale over several years and so far even the inexpensive ones are holding up really well. At home, all I need except for a few freezing days are raincoats and wool or cashmere coats.

#1 burgundy LE puffer gets the most wear in the winter months. Lightweight and very warm. Lots of convenient pockets. The colour looks better IRL than in the photo.

#2 Uniqlo navy is an option when temps are right at zero or if I’m doing a dash from car to indoors.

The cloth coats get worn for when I’m dressing up just a bit. #3 a NAS purchase in a dark navy modern boxy shape. Alas, it has a higher synthetic content that I prefer, and is pilling along the underarms where they come in contact with the body. :-( #4 is a new 70% wool long length coat from Mango. Very nice quality for the price point. I wanted it for when I wore dresses, but have been wearing it at least once a week since I got it, and not necessarily when I wear a dress.

I’ve got at least 5 wool or merino hats that I mix and match, and leather mitts and gloves. I’m into wearing silk scarves vs knit ones. I find them surprisingly warm, and soft next to the skin.

Oh, puffers… I’m not a big fan but it is a necessity here in Canada.
I love you blue Ralph Lauren, beautiful color and looks great on you!

I separate mine by function, temps (thickness) and also by length.

1 & 2 Short, reversible puffer and older teal one - car rides & shopping, both are from Massimo Dutti
3. Below the knee, oversized black puffer - mild temps to -10C or so. Uniqlo +J
4. To the knee length on me, this one is the warmest puffer from Aritzia.

On my shopping list there is a long Aritzia puffer probably in navy. I’m skipping this winter and plan to buy it at the end of the year.

It has not snowed much here this year (Chicago area), and I am a bit sad about it! I added one new puffer a couple of months ago, and have not had the opportunity to wear it much!

I wish I looked as fab in a puffer as you do! I love the shine on your plum one and the pretty rich blue with handy hood!

My heavy-hitters for winter are a big peacoat, a long wool topcoat, and an old shearling aviator. Chunky scarves and footwear are key outerwear for me - if my feet and neck are cold I can’t bear it!

Shops and markets here crank the heat to an unbearable temp, so I sweat simply grocery shopping. At home, we keep the heat down, so I spend most my day bundled in thick fleece

I think the plum is pretty!
Our winters are probably milder than yours, but these are the coats that currently fit. The black is lightweight and packable, for milder days.
The camel is medium weight. I wear it the most cause it elevates my winter outfits.
The burgundy furry is very warm, but I generally just use it for festive occasions.
The olive puffer is very warm too, for the very coldest days.
I wear gloves most days, but rarely hats or scarves.

Winter has definitely arrived where I am, we just got hit with 20 cms of snow the other day, so puffers are essential for keeping warm at this time of year.

I have 3 different puffers on rotate depending on where I'm going and the weather conditions of the day.

#1 PLUM, CALVIN KLEIN PACKABLE DOWN COAT (A top colour pick for women of a certain age) LOL - Great for mall shopping, errands, and walks on milder days.

#2 EGGPLANT COLOURED, ONLY PUFFER JACKET- Easy to move in and lightweight too, good for colder days

#3 - BLUE, RALPH LAUREN DOWN COAT -The ultimate for those extremely cold days. Shearling-lined hood with faux fur trim for added warmth.

#4 Underneath it all:
* Black, flared cords -SIMONS
* Black & White patterned, merino wool pull over -TISSÉES SERRÉES
*Black, lugged sole chelsea boots - DIRTY LAUNDRY

This is how I typically dress in winter, but how about you?
What do you need to wear to get through the winter season where you are?
